The power couple behind HALL Arts Residences will be honored in February with Downtown Dallas Inc.’s prestigious Groundbreaker Award, which recognizes individuals or companies that have made a significant impact on the growth and vibrancy of Downtown Dallas while promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the community.
CandysDirt.com has long followed the distinguished careers of Craig and Kathryn Walt Hall, founders of HALL Group, a diversified real estate development, winemaking, and investment firm, and we’ve watched HALL Arts Residences and the attached HALL Arts Hotel Dallas, Curio Collection by Hilton develop over the years. Kathryn Hall served as U.S. ambassador to Austria from 1997 to 2001, and her husband, Craig Hall, founded Dallas-based Hall Financial Group. The couple owns a Napa Valley winery, she is an attorney, and he was part-owner of The Dallas Cowboys, and that’s just part of their long resumes.
Philanthropists and Business Leaders
Downtown Dallas Inc. president and CEO Jennifer Scripps refers to the Halls as prominent philanthropists and successful business leaders, chosen for the award because of their outstanding contributions to the region and their unwavering commitment to fostering a thriving urban environment.
“Craig and Kathryn Hall are true catalysts for positive change in our city and beyond. Their legacy of entrepreneurship, innovation, and community involvement is unmatched,” Scripps said. “Their commitment to shaping the future of Downtown Dallas, along with their global influence and philanthropic efforts, embodies the spirit of the Groundbreaker Award.”
The Halls’ philanthropic efforts include support for local and global entrepreneurial initiatives, arts organizations, and community-focused causes. Together, they have been strong advocates for creating a vibrant and inclusive community in Downtown Dallas, according to a press release from DDI. Craig and Kathryn Hall were traveling out of the country during the holidays and could not be reached for comment, but we hope to catch up with them before the awards ceremony in February.
Previous Groundbreaker Award recipients include Robert W. Decherd in 2024 and Ambassador Ron Kirk in 2023.
Awards will be presented at the Downtown Dallas Inc. 2025 annual meeting, set for Feb. 11 at the Omni Hotel in Dallas. Visit the DDI website for more information.
