We hear complaints about new construction daily. Readers bring up the fact that most new homes are built with zero consideration for the character and style of the neighborhood. That’s not the case with this striking East Dallas Craftsman.

I honestly had to do a double-take when I saw this home. At first glance it looks like a historic home that’s been beautifully maintained but it’s relatively new, built in 2001. It fits in beautifully as this neighborhood is bounded by historic Munger Place and Peaks Suburban Addition.

That’s because David Weekley Homes built it. They were the first builder in the U.S. to earn the Triple Crown of American Home Building, which recognizes a home builder as Americans’ Best Builder, the National Housing Quality Award, and the National Builder of the Year.

According to Berkshire Hathaway listing agent Jeremy Larsen, David Weekley Homes also built several neighboring homes following the architectural guidelines created for Munger Place.

“They used siding, column, window, sash, and facade details that echo the homes of the early 1900s,” Larsen said.

History was also honored with the broad front porch and porch swing. This is a stunning example of doing the right thing and building the right home in the right neighborhood instead of erecting a gigantic white box.

The kitchen features a gas range with downdraft, a built-in oven, and microwave.

This East Dallas Craftsman brings buyers the best of both worlds, historic charm with all of the elements a modern family needs for a comfortable lifestyle. There are 2,606 square feet, three bedrooms, and two-and-a-half bathrooms with an open floor plan, a dedicated study, and a game room upstairs.

It’s hard to beat the location. As I mentioned, this East Dallas Craftsman is right between two of our most historic neighborhoods, Peaks Suburban Addition and Munger Place. You can bike to the Garden Cafe in four minutes, the amazing Jimmy’s Food Store in five, and the Lakewood Library in six. You essentially have urban living in the middle of a lovely neighborhood.
