Beyond price and location, when we look for a home, we’re all looking for inspiration. There are no two people more qualified to bring us inspiration than Regan Carlile and Chad Dorsey. And boy, have they brought it to us with this two-story traditional University Park Cape Cod Cottage.

The 4,060-square-foot home, built in 1940, was originally white with contrasting shutters and very traditional. It presented the perfect canvas for Carlile and Dorsey. Dorsey’s More Design + Build team had already collaborated on three of Carlile’s former homes, so there was a well-established synergy in reimagining a new era for this traditional house. They took the walls down to the studs and let their creativity loose.

Carlile and Dorsey are not afraid of color and while the house is colorful, take another look. Sure, the exterior of the house was coated in Benjamin Moore’s Black Jack, which adds a substantial level of drama. But, Vanilla Milkshake, also from Benjamin Moore, is the overriding color inside. It’s Carlile’s eclectic and colorful design style that adds the punch. Well, and a black study!

“I always love a fun new way to see things,” Carlile said. “The black room is my favorite place in the winter. It’s the same color we used on the exterior, and it’s just cozy.”
Carlile added an Asian table her husband, Zach, inherited from his grandmother. It’s the perfect focal piece with contrast provided by bright orange leather chairs.

One of the more whimsical elements in this University Park Cape Cod is the unique chandelier in the formal living room. It’s a crystal sailing ship anchored into an ornate mirror. The chandelier is offset by an extraordinary fireplace tiled with Sitio tiles by Exquisite Surfaces.

We’ve also been faced with blown-out interiors over the past few years, and although the house was completely reimagined, it was done with attention to defining spaces.

The obvious place for the open concept is between the kitchen and family room, which this home delivers beautifully, but there is still a definition.
“We have coffee in the little sitting area at the end of the kitchen,” Carlile said. “I adore the kitchen and love cooking here. You have your space but can still be a part of everything.”

There are plenty of private spots in this University Park Cape Cod, like the serene principal suite and the living space carved out for the kids at the top of the house. When you are entertaining downstairs, they have an escape from the adults!

“I love taking a risk,” Carlile said. This home has sparked joy everywhere for us. It’s light and airy, and it just feels good!”
