Real Estate Under Fire: JP Piccinini and Jim Fite Talk NAR Lawsuit and the Future for Realtors

Share News:

How does a Realtor survive such a landmark case as the National Association of Realtors class action lawsuit? Work harder, say two North Texas broker legends. Jim Fite, President and CEO of Century 21 Judge Fite Realty, and JP Piccinini, founder of JP and Associates, share their insights on the current lawsuits affecting the industry and how Realtors can succeed.

In this special two-episode edition of Dallas Dirt, Candy Evans interviews both Fite and Piccinini about the National Association of Realtors (NAR) class action lawsuit that could reshape the real estate industry, particularly in how commissions are structured and negotiated. If you haven’t been following, the NAR lawsuit concerns allegations that the organization and several major real estate brokerages conspired to inflate commissions paid by home sellers.

In this short clip below, Evans explains the NAR lawsuit in a nutshell.

Jim Fite of Judge Fite Realty

In Candy’s interview with Fite, the long-time broker emphasizes the importance of communication and training for real estate professionals and highlights the fiduciary relationship between agents and clients.

But this isn’t the first time that Fite, who’s been a Realtor and broker for 52 years, has seen a lawsuit like this. Evans and Fite discuss a previous antitrust lawsuit in the 1980s and the potential impact of the recent lawsuit on agents and consumers.

JP Piccinini of JP and Associates Real Estate

JP Piccinini, entrepreneur and founder of JP and Associates Real Estate says top professionals will always be valued and compensated accordingly, but this lawsuit may see some weeding out of less dedicated individuals.

“It’s become too easy to become a real estate agent,” JP Piccinini says, who interestingly said that he only hired full-time agents. Part-time real estate agents or those who only sold one or two homes a year were routinely cut from the brokerage. “I think National Association of Realtors has to have a really hard look at what does it mean to be a Realtor, not a realtor, to be a Realtor.
