The Preston Hollow Home of Empty Nest Blessed Blogger Suzy Mighell Is On the Market

You may be familiar with Suzy Mighell’s blog Empty Nest Blessed. If not, you should be, because we will all be empty nesters one day, and we need to embrace this stage of life. That is exactly why Suzy and her husband Bob are putting their custom Preston Hollow home on the market. They are ready for the next phase of empty nesting and a lock-and-leave lifestyle.

When they chose to build their custom home in Preston Hollow, it was during a completely different stage of life and for a reason that is common to most of us: kids. They are a significant factor in deciding where to live, especially since proximity to their schools is often a high priority. That was the case for the Mighells. They realized a move to Preston Hollow from Lake Highlands would cut their drive time in half. That’s huge when you want to not only drive your kids to school but also pop over for the occasional lunch with them or a school event.
Once the decision was made, the first step was to find a great lot and a reputable builder. “We discovered Registry Fine Homes,” Suzy said. “Rather than being cost-plus builders, they built to a budget, and the lot was included. It was an awesome process.”

While Suzy was focused on creating a home that would work for every member of the family, she also kept resale in mind, knowing full well, very few of us stay in a house for a lifetime anymore. They settled on a two-story design with 4,939 square feet, four bedrooms, three full bathrooms, and three powder baths.
“We love our living room,” Suzy said. “It has French doors that open to an outdoor den with a TV, a refrigerator, a grill, sofas, and a drop-down screen. We were on the front wave of outdoor rooms being a thing.”

A remodel during the pandemic transformed the dining room into Suzy’s office, which makes a lot of sense, as two home offices are more practical than a dining room that gets used only twice a year. Of course, if you entertain formally, all you have to do is put your dining table back in the room, but you should know the kitchen’s breakfast area is enormous. You can fit a table here that sits up to 14.

While the primary and office spaces are located on the first floor, the second floor was designed with the kids in mind. They ensured the inclusion of a game/media room and a fitness center, and designed the bedrooms to cater to the specific interests and needs of each child.
“Our daughter is a musical theater actress, so when she was growing up, we installed a working stage with spotlights and a ballet bar that are still in place,” Suzy said. There is also a mini door that leads to a closet with bookshelves. “One of our sons loves nature, so his room looked out on the treetops. We have another son who loves to read, so we had bookshelves built into his room.”

The Mighells loved working with Registry Fine Homes because they commit every possible nook and cranny to use and give you spaces where it is possible to build out. “They call them dream spaces,” Suzy said. “For instance, we have a floored room off the fitness area. It’s over the garage and would be a wonderful guest suite. That commitment to utilizing all the space means we have great areas, such as a gift wrap room off the kitchen. There are unique and almost secret spaces in the house that make it a great family home.”

This Preston Hollow custom home has been just that for the family. All three kids were raised here but are now living in other cities. So, it’s time for these empty nesters to embrace the next stage, and if anyone knows how to do that, it’s Suzy. She started her blog 10 years ago after she and Bob dropped their youngest off at college.
“I had this heart for empty nesters as I became one,” Suzy said. “ I’ve always been involved in speaking to and encouraging women. And as I saw so many of my peers who were struggling with the adjustment to the empty nest, I felt called to create a site that offered a more joyful, purposeful take as women look at this next portion of their lives.”
To say she’s been successful is an understatement. Empty Nest Blessed is the highest-rated blog in its category on Google, and her book of the same name is already available for pre-sale on Amazon.

Finding the joy in selling and moving on to the next phase of life has been helped by the thought process that fuels Empty Nest Blessed. “It’s the thought that another family can enjoy this home the way we have,” Suzy said.
