This Notable East Plano Home Comes With at Least 3 Great Reasons to Buy

Here are three great reasons to buy the house at 1510 R Ave. in Plano.
First, it’s locally famous since it’s known as Plano’s official Halloween house. This designation even brought the house its 15 minutes of fame — being highlighted on The Kelly Clarkson Show. A film crew came to Plano, and this house’s Halloween glory was seen on national TV. It seems the original owner, Dottie Hasford began giving out full-sized candy bars before that was a thing. The current owners, not willing to break the tradition, took it up a notch with decorations, candy, and costumes. Now known as the Disney Halloween mansion, the scene includes a full-sized Mickey Mouse costume that makes an appearance every year.
Okay, so that’s great reason number one to purchase this house. The second? It’s the 1.6 acres this property spans. Literally four lots in this cul-de-sac were purchased so this 5,318-square-foot custom house could be built as it was designed.

Own the Cul-de-Sac
“You would literally own the whole cul-de-sac,” said Realtor Kyle Lyon with Briggs-Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty. He has the property listed for $1.35 million. “The real selling point on this house is that it’s in East Plano, sitting 1.6 acres.”

This land, Lyon said, has all kinds of potential for a developer. Plano’s 15th street runs through historic downtown Plano—which is booming these days—and dead ends into this home’s cul-de-sac.
“As much as we would hate for the house to be torn down, but it would be an opportunity for a developer to build four luxury homes or five to six mid-level homes.”
One-Story Wonder

Now here’s the third reason. This beautiful home of more than 5,000 square feet spans more than an acre and a half — all on one story. No stairs and no awkward additions here. The home, with its four bedrooms and six bathrooms, was designed to live extravagantly all on one level.
That luxurious space also comes with the kind of updates that don’t show, but definitely matter. Everything mechanical and important in the house has been updated. All windows have been replaced, and the original cast-iron pipes were traded for PVC. The roof was replaced, and summers should be plenty cool with the five AC units that have been installed.

Longer List
Yet the actual things that are seen are great, too, and worth counting. Outside are mature trees and lush landscaping. All four bedrooms come with attached ensuites. The primary bedroom is a corner suite with floor-to-ceiling windows and a custom shower system. The kitchen features high-end stainless-steel appliances, a double pantry, and a see-though fireplace. The oversized garage can shelter three cars.
“This house is stunning,” Lyon said. “This is such a rare opportunity to own a piece of Plano history.”

The Realtor is hosting an open house there from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Visit it and find which of the three reasons matters most.
