Snowmageddon

It’s not a secret that North Texans tend to freak out a little bit when a little winter precipitation comes our way. Evidenced by our tendency to name the event things like Snowmageddon 2025.

Look, it’s not our thing. It doesn’t happen often enough for us to be fully prepared either at home or on the roads, so we tend to panic. But at least we have a good sense of humor about it, and you can always count on social media to be filled with North Texans making fun of ourselves.

So here’s a sampling of the best tweets and posts we’ve seen during this storm. We hope they keep you laughing and off the roads. We’ve also included some resources to keep you busy taking care of your home for during and after the freeze at the end.

The DPS That Keeps Us Laughing

We can always count on the brilliance of the Southlake DPS to keep us entertained — well, anytime, but especially during a crisis! Leave it to their creative minds to point out that the weather people must mean business if the colors on the map so closely match this familiar cold cup. Oh, and “Make sure you aren’t going to leave your pets outside (UnLeSs iT’s a HuSky, we know).”

The Weatherman With a Sense of Humor (and Moves)

I saw multiple people posting this gem from meteorologist Nick Kosir of Fox Weather, known as the Dancing Weatherman. This particular post was originally from back in November, so the mention of sunny LA isn’t as horribly tone-deaf as you are thinking, it’s just being widely shared again as people here and in other places are homebound on Snow Day.

You should also check out this rapping Superintendent from Brock ISD, who chose to make her school closures announcement in a creative way. If they don’t have you from, “Kick it,” you have no soul. It won’t let me embed the post or I’d share it here.

Hey Chicago …

It Could Always Be Worse

Somebody from the Northern states always has to come at us with, “This is nothing! Why, back in ____ state where I’m from, we …” No one cares. You’re in Texas, and this is the apocalypse. Hush.

Storm-Prep Hunger Games

It can get rough out there. I don’t know why we think two days at home requires stocking up like we’re going to a cabin in the woods like Laura Ingalls Wilder for six weeks, but this is what we do.

Advice For Newcomers

This is so great and absolutely encapsulates North Texas Snowmageddon. I love the part about people driving either 8 or 80 mph on the highway, and if you get stranded to just wait a minute because two guys in a pickup will be along to help pull you out.

So Happy Snow Day! We hope you stay safe and warm out there, and stay home if you can until the roads are better. We have a few more days of freezing temperatures, and your home will still be at risk for damage during this time. Here are some resources for things you can do during and after the storm to protect your home.
