What Luxury Home Would Karen Purchase That’s Still on the Market?

If Santa had brought me a big bag of money for Christmas, I’d buy one of these beautiful luxury homes. By now you know my heart is firmly planted in the preservation community and historic homes make my heart skip a beat, so three of these are iconic historic homes. However, there is a 1999 home that I’d move into in a heartbeat at 10540 Lennox Lane in Preston Hollow.
What I Love About This Luxury Home in Preston Hollow

It’s a Tudor, and that is one of my favorite styles of home. Regardless of the size, Tudors have character, are warm and inviting, and always feel at home regardless of size. This one has over 17,000 square feet and is on more than four acres with two ponds and its own water well. I’ve seldom seen a house that has it all, but this one certainly does. It is the quintessential English country estate in the heart of Preston Hollow, and it’s perfect. I would change absolutely nothing about it.

A Historic Home Overlooking Turtle Creek

That blue tile roof on this historic Mediterranean had me at hello! Sitting on just over two acres, it was once owned by Robert Edsel. You may remember he wrote the book Monuments Men which was made into a movie written and directed by and starring George Clooney. What would I change about it? Absolutely nothing and I would not care one bit if I had to do any upkeep or repairs because this is truly a one-of-a-kind property in Dallas. Honestly, if you are purchasing in this price range and complaining about fixing anything, ease on down the road because someone with style, taste, and an appreciation for history is destined to own this iconic home.

Charles Dilbeck and Cole Smith Created a Fairytale Luxury Home

This is a great example of one genius bringing the work of another into this century. Charles Dilbeck designed the home in 1948 and it was his last French Norman design. Cole Smith expanded it and added a second-floor principal suite, all in keeping with the original French Norman style. The ultimate enhancement to this 1.6-acre estate is the landscaping. It’s a veritable fairytale paradise of babbling brooks, winding pathways, and lush vegetation. All credit to Steve Giovannini for his vision. Again, I’d change nothing in this house except maybe the dining room wall color and that would take me about four hours.

Who Can Resist a Luxury Home with a Name?

Last but certainly not least, and probably the one I’d end up buying because I love East Dallas, is the Elizabethan-style Bossum Manor. I mean, how can you not love a home with a name?
It was named after Sir Alfred Bossum, the English Architect who designed and built the home. It’s on a bit over an acre in a prime Lakewood location and has 35 closets. Sold! Okay, yes, it needs a bit of work, but again, come on! It’s an iconic home at a great price and in an excellent location.
Allie Beth Allman’s Clifton Kessler has 6835 Westlake Ave. available for $4.6 million. That, my dear readers, is a steal. Now, if only Santa had cooperated and brought me that bag of money!
I will go halfsies with you on the Lennox house! Tudors are my fav, also. 🙂 (or at least tied with Dilbeck’s)
Love that Blue Tile roof!!!
