Locally-renowned Dallas home builder and former mayor of University Park Harold Peek will be recognized by the state this fall at the Texas Housing Hall of Honor’s annual induction ceremony.
Peek became the youngest president of the Dallas Builders Association in 1971 when he was just 31 years old.
Harold Peek’s Legacy
Harold Peek, a pioneering figure in Dallas’s construction industry, joined Peek Properties in 1961 and completed 1,700 homes in just 10 years, the Dallas BA reported in its tribute to the builder.

“Under his guidance, Peek made great strides in dealing with the Department of Labor and successfully transformed the Association’s bylaws to develop a Registered Professional Building Program, elevating industry standards while avoiding stringent state licensing,” the DBA says in its tribute.
“Peek’s influence extended nationally, as he testified before Congress in 1979 to support increased mortgage limits. His commitment to public service culminated in his role as mayor of University Park from 1998 to 2004, demonstrating his enduring dedication to both the construction industry and his local community.”
Peek was awarded the Hugh Prather Trophy, the highest honor bestowed by the Dallas BA, in 1975. Peek Properties has been a continuous member of the Association for more than five decades.
Several members of the Dallas BA sent in words of support for Peek when the announcement was made last month.
“Harold Peek is known in the building world as the All-American of builders,” said Gage Prichard of Gage Homes, who served as Dallas Builders Association president in 1982. “He worked alongside many of the great Dallas area real estate names, making Dallas one of the most dynamic cities in the U.S.. I have been privileged to know the Peek family most of my life. Harold Peek has made a tremendous impact on the cities of Dallas, Richardson, and University Park. One of his many outstanding qualities is that he lives by his word. It is a true blessing to know Harold.”

Bob Cresswell of Cresswell Builders said he’s known Peek since 1972.
“A man of high integrity and a trusted leader, he became friends with many other influential people who advised congressmen and senators,” Cresswell said. “At times Harold Peek was called by the National Association of Home Builders to access legislators’ attention on issues at hand that would affect our industry. He testified in Washington D.C. on increasing the loan limits for conventional, FHA, and VA loans, as well as many other issues.”
Current Dallas Builders Association president Adam Lingenfelter of Lingenfelter Luxury Homes said Peek has had a long and distinguished career in the home-building industry.
“Every person who spoke on his behalf during our board meeting stated that they could not think of a more deserving individual,” Lingenfelter said.
Texas Housing Hall of Honor
Peek will join Randy Birdwell of Central Texas and the late Larry Johnson of Houston as inductees into the 2024 Texas Housing Hall of Honor as voted upon by the Texas Housing Hall of Honor Board of Governors, according to an official announcement from the Texas Association of Builders. The ceremony will be at the Excellence in Leadership Dinner on Nov. 20 at the Hyatt Lost Pines in Bastrop.
