Every Day is Earth Day for Lima-Stanley’s Design Duo

On Monday April 22, the world will celebrate Earth Day, a reminder of our shared responsibility to preserve the planet for future generations. For Lima-Stanley Design, sustainability is a year-round commitment. The Dallas-based interior and landscape design firm is dedicated to creating spaces that support a healthy, harmonious lifestyle.

“Our approach focuses on total well-being,” said Daniel Stanley, co-founder and landscape creative director. “Your home should be a sanctuary — indoors and out.”

Your health and well-being are what matter most, according to co-founders Daniel and Rome.

As Daniel tells it, opening a design company wasn’t always on the radar. After getting married in 2016, the partners took two years off to travel. “When we returned it was time to get serious. What did we want to do? Where should we focus?”

For Rome, a WELL Accredited Professional interior designer, the path was clear-cut. “I wanted to bring sustainability to the design industry.”

Daniel gravitated towards real estate. He stayed long enough to know it wasn’t his gig. “You have to do something that keeps you motivated and moving forward.” With Rome’s encouragement, he earned certification as a landscape architect through the New York Institute of Art and Design.

In 2020, Lima-Stanley Design opened for business. “The first week, the phone didn’t ring,” recalled Daniel. “We were freaking out.”

Then COVID happened. “All of a sudden, everybody needed help with their homes. During that second week of lockdown, we got eight projects. We were still freaking out, but from a totally different perspective.”

The Dykes Project focuses on outdoor living.

For a young company, the pandemic was a time to either sink or swim, he added. “We learned a lot about the industry really fast. Luckily, we had the help of some really good mentors and business coaches.”

The company’s five-step “inside out” design service is thoughtfully crafted to align with each client’s individual needs and lifestyle. Collaboration is key. “We listen to what’s important, what they’re drawn to.”

Spaces should not just be seen, but deeply felt and personalized.

Throughout the process, Daniel and Rome provide earth-friendly alternatives. “The biggest misconception is that sustainability is more expensive. Often, it’s just a better-made, longer-lasting product.”

The Oscar Project provided an at-home retreat.

The designs speak for themselves. “For the Oscar Project, we did a lot of nature inside. Our approach was to create a retreat inside the home. The homeowners allowed us to be very creative.”

Everything works in tandem, from the abundance of natural light to healthy wallpapers and recycled wall art. “We were able to achieve 80 percent sustainable materials and practices.”

Design elements on repeat include Wolf-Gordon wallcoverings, Sherwin Williams zero-VOC paint, and Polywood outdoor furniture. They also give a shout-out to Native Gardens Nursery in Euless — the best selection of Texas native plants, according to Daniel.

“Our why, our message, our reason for doing this is to protect the planet. To provide something beautiful and healthy for people when we’re no longer here.”

Elaine Raffel left the corporate world to become a freelance creative focused on real estate and design in Dallas.
