Micky Carr Lists a JanMar Home That is a Rare Find For Midcentury Modern Purists

Besides its convenient location at Hillcrest and Forest roads, there are many reasons why the North Dallas enclave of JanMar is popular with buyers. The neighborhood is so idyllic it almost feels out of place in what is a booming area.

“JanMar has always been considered so special, with rolling hills, winding streets and some of the city’s largest collection of Midcentury Modern homes,” Says Micky Carr with the Michael Group. He would know as he has a fabulous listing in the area, which is this week’s Highlight Home of The Week sponsored by Senior Loan Officer Lisa Peters of First Horizon.

While Jan Mar is full to the brim of beautiful homes, Carr has one special listing that is hard to beat.

“This home is the hat trick,” Carr said, “great location, large midcentury single level, and larger than average lot backing to a creek.”

The large lot gives you tons of room to enjoy the outdoors and plenty of great views from the large windows of the living area facing the back deck and beyond. With four bedrooms, three-and-a-half bathrooms, and more than 4,200 square feet, this Midcentury Modern is no small home. However, the windows and all the natural light make it feel even bigger and more open.

Carr certainly knows what a great home looks like, as his design-build company Spruce Designs has done several luxury flips through the years. The sellers of this JanMar Midcentury Modern loved his work so much that they hired him for this property.

“I met these sellers after they toured one of my luxury flip homes in JanMar in 2016,” Carr said. “Through my design-build company Spruce Designs, I remodeled the kitchen in 2017 and the primary bath in 2021.”

Carr’s company did an incredible job of bringing in finishes and fixtures that work so well with the existing style of the 1960 Midcentury Modern. The home features an original sunken terrazzo living area, a beautiful curved masonry fireplace and hearth, and a wall of windows connecting the open kitchen and breakfast area.

There’s an additional den that opens to a private courtyard just off of the side of the home that could function well as a home office.

“An interesting note on the couple who currently owns the home and have for the past nearly 12 years: they both are clearly lovers of Midcentury Modern,” Carr said. “Additionally he is a lifelong professional ad designer for a large Dallas advertising firm. So this is a house that attracts folks who appreciate good design and have an eye for detail.”

This home doesn’t spare details, especially in that remodeled primary suite, which has patio access, three walk-in closets, walnut cabinetry, and a freestanding tub and luxury shower.

Carr says the lot, which slopes creekward, would be the perfect space for an infinity-edge pool with enough room to add a pickleball court.

Micky Carr with The Michael Group has listed 11535 Saint Michaels Drive in JanMar for $1.899 million.

I’ve personally been to several evening/dinner events in this home, both indoors and outside, and it is a spectacular home! The interior is perfect for entertaining and when you are sitting on the back patio overlooking the large yard, it truly feels like an oasis in the middle of the city. A beautiful property.
