It’s Thanksgiving in North Texas, and therefore time to reflect on the things for which we are grateful. Here at Upon Closer Inspection, our list may look a little different than yours, but hey, that’s the content you came here for.

Inspector Adrian is Thankful For Contractors Who Get Spray Foam Right

There are several different kinds of attic insulation, and spray foam is arguably the best, most effective, and also most expensive. That’s why it’s so frustrating to find it installed improperly so frequently. The step that often gets skipped is the return air vent. If you don’t have air circulating in the attic space when you have it sealed off with spray foam, you’ve created an oven on top of your house with those appliances running up there.

Inspector Cody is Thankful For This Cool GFCI Alarm

Like, really thankful. Seriously, only a home inspector or an electrician would get excited about this. But this is a great gadget for the home improvement enthusiast on your list this year. You know when you have to test every bulb on a string of Christmas lights to see which one is out? What if the dead bulb beeped so you didn’t have to do that? This is that, but for outlets.

When a GFCI outlet trips you won’t know it until you go to use it again,  and that may not seem like a big deal unless it’s something you need to run automatically, like your sprinkler system, your water heater, or your pool pump. These alarms go off when an outlet trips so you can find it right away and reset it. You can buy them here.

Inspector Alex is Thankful This Water Heater Didn’t Flood The House

Oh dear, somebody hasn’t been checking their water heater. Luckily that nasty water hasn’t yet leaked all over the floor and into the house. Yet.

I’m Thankful I Don’t Have To Get In Crawl Spaces

Aren’t you glad you don’t have to crawl through that for your job? Well, unless you’re also a home inspector, a plumber, an electrician, or other related professional, in which case, I salute you and I am thankful for you. Yikes. So many critters pooping under this house. But I can’t leave you with that nastiness right before Thanksgiving, so here’s a fun crawl space video instead.

We hope you count your blessings and all the things that are working properly in your house this Thanksgiving week. And if you have questions about home maintenance, or about a home you want to purchase, you know who to call
