Scaremount, Fairmount Historic District’s Annual Halloween Scavenger Hunt, Returns Oct. 31

Next in a series: North Texas cities, towns, and neighborhoods celebrate fall with all the gusto of people who have suffered through a Texas summer, and we are here to let you know about the best area fall festivals, Oktoberfests, pumpkin patches, and Halloween fun over the next several weeks. Today we head to Fort Worth to celebrate Halloween in the Fairmount Historic District. If you know of a great fall activity that needs to be showcased, let us know! Here’s the series so far.

What makes it special: If there’s one holiday tradition that I love more than touring the neighborhood with a beverage during peak Christmas light display season, it’s trick-or-treating in neighborhoods with incredible Halloween displays. In Fort Worth’s Fairmount Historic District, the latter is something you don’t want to miss.

Scaremount, the beloved annual Fairmount neighborhood Halloween decoration scavenger hunt, returns on Oct. 31, 2023, with plenty of spooky fun. Neighbors go all out for the holiday, with lighting displays, creepy props, plenty of spiderwebs, and tons of inflatables.

“Overall, I would just say, the last couple of years we’ve had 20 to 25 houses participate with decorations or something special,” said Cristina Gore, Fairmount Neighborhood Association’s Communications Board Member. “Scaremount is really the map that shows you where all the hot spots are so that folks know the best places to visit and admire and trick-or-treat from and all the houses have the potential to be elected yard of the month.”

For Fairmount residents who want a spot on the map, nominate your house or a neighbor’s by submitting a photo and the home’s address here. The deadline for nominations is noon on All Hallow’s Eve (that’s Oct. 30). On the morning of Halloween, the Scaremount map, complete with must-visit spots, will be unveiled.
