Yesterday WFAA meteorologist Pete Delkus set fire to McKinney. A typo set the temperature in McKinney at 101,105 degrees but he wasn’t too far off. As H-E-B enthusiasts know, McKinney was the hottest place to be this week as the third new H-E-B location opened on Eldorado Pkwy.

Until it melted apparently.

Dallas-Fort Worth welcomed its third H-E-B location on July 19 with the opening of a 118,000-square-foot store at 8700 Eldorado Pkwy. in McKinney. The San Antonio-based retailer has announced timetables for four new H-E-B stores in the suburbs and a sister brand in South Dallas. New H-E-B stores include a second Frisco location, a store in Allen, a store serving Fort Worth in Alliance, and a store serving southern counties of the Metroplex in Mansfield. Details are scarce for the South Dallas discount retailer called Joe V’s Smart Shop for now.

Here’s a look at H-E-B stores’ rapid expansion in North Texas:

Frisco
4800 Main St., Frisco

OPEN — The Frisco H-E-B location opened its doors in Sept. 2022. The 11,000-square-foot store features a full-service H-E-B Pharmacy with a drive-thru, and a True Texas BBQ restaurant with a drive-thru, which was named best barbecue chain in Texas by Texas Monthly.

Plano
6001 Preston Road at Spring Creek Pkwy

OPEN — The Plano location opened its doors in Nov. 2022 as well as with two other locations in Houston on the same day. This location joins six Central Market locations that have been serving DFW shoppers for decades.

McKinney
8700 Eldorado Pkwy

OPEN — H-E-B commemorated the McKinney store’s grand opening with a $10,000 donation to the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary. The site features extensive native landscaping throughout the property, and a tree preserve located between the store and residential neighbors to provide a natural buffer and privacy.

Allen
Northwest corner of Exchange Pkwy and Greenville Ave (Hwy 5)

UNDER CONSTRUCTION — On May 25, H-E-B officially started construction on another location planned for the DFW Metroplex, breaking ground at the site of a new store in Allen, which is set to open in Fall 2023.

Mansfield
Corner of US 287 and Broad Street

UNDER CONSTRUCTION — In Feb. 2023, H-E-B officially began construction on its Mansfield H-E-B store. They expect to open in Spring 2024.

Frisco
Southwest corner of FM 423 and US 380 near Little Elm

UNDER CONSTRUCTION — In May, H-E-B announced that it would be adding a second location in Frisco to serve eastern Denton County. The grocer broke ground in June at the second store and they anticipate a late 2024 open date.

Dallas
4101 W. Wheatland Road on the corner of Highway 67

(H-E-B Newsroom)

ANNOUNCED — Coming late 2024, H-E-B announced plans to open two Joe V’s Smart Shop by H-E-B stores in Dallas, the first locations the multi-format retailer will open outside the Houston area.

Dallas
5204 S. Buckner Blvd. at the corner of Samuell Street

ANNOUNCED — Coming Spring 2025, Joe V’s Smart Shop by H-E-B is “an innovative price format that delivers a uniquely curated assortment of community-focused products, and the most relevant high-quality, fresh products H-E-B is known for.”

Celina
Southeast corner of Preston and Outer Loop

UNCONFIRMED — With so much development in Celina and the northern counties, it’s no wonder that work is underway to bring the next H-E-B to Celina.

San Antonio-based H-E-B opened its first store in Kerrville in 1905 and now has over 420 stores across Texas and Mexico.
