This Historic Fairmount Home is a Lovingly Restored Dream Machine

ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME WITH THIS HOUSE? It’s in the Fairmont Historic District in Fort Worth, which, if you’re not familiar with, all you really need to know is that it is charming times 1,000. It’s absolutely adorable and a mix of million-dollar homes, Craftsman-style homes, gorgeous lawns, and giant trees. It’s close to all the cool kid stuff, too, like trendy restaurants that are a mix of new and been-there-forever.

A Cool Historic Fairmount Home

Now this house is just about as cool as they come. It was built in 1916 and has been very lovingly restored by the current owners. We’re talking about the leaded glass windows that were removed, restored, and replaced.

The original hardwoods couldn’t be salvaged, but they recreated custom quarter-inch sawn white oak flooring that is perfect for the era. They’ve added a few built-ins — such as the buffet in the dining room— and created pieces that look like they’ve been there all along.

The colors they chose are perfect, too, and reflective of the time. They’re muted Earthy tones that surprisingly work with just about any furniture you can throw at them. Or, you can go the route of these owners and purchase pieces just for the home. It’s just so dang lovely.

In the kitchen one detail you might overlook is the slim soapstone. They went with one-inch and it’s crazy what a difference it makes. It looks so natural and like it was meant to be. And seriously, if you brought a bull-nose finish anywhere near hear, we’d all throw eggs at you.

League Real Estate’s Lori Gallagher is a bit of an expert on this area and she said even the custom cabinetry is so special. All the way to the ceiling, looks like it was meant to be — what more could you want?

Gallagher also said the secondary quarters out back have a full kitchen and separate rooms so it truly is a mini other house.

Back in the main house, Gallagher called out the crawlspace. Not always the biggest, most ooh la la selling point, but if you’re Team Pier-And-Beam, you get it. The owners upgraded the heck out of this one by installing a moisture barrier, a sump pump, and dehumidifying fans. The result is, obviously, less moisture in the air inside the home and also a hope for less movement, too.
