Racaan Calton always wanted to be a Realtor.

Racaan Calton tried several occupations before finally coming to the one she truly loves. Even as she was doing something else, it was always in the back of her mind.

Then, six years ago, something forced her hand, so she “went for it.”

“I chose this career after being laid off and always wanting to be a Realtor,” she said. “The opportunity presented itself, so I figured it was time I gave it a try.”

The Fort Worth native and current Arlington resident’s previous experience included serving in the U.S. Air Force Reserves and as an internal auditor. She provides service for both a hospital and a retail company.

“Real estate brings together all my experiences. I have the financial background and I love serving others. It marries the two.”

Calton is a Realtor and licensed real estate agent for ExP Realty. She serves Tarrant County, mostly in residential areas.

Although some in the real estate industry have indicated otherwise, Calton said she sees the modern technology of do-it-yourself opportunities as an aid in her business.

“It helps from the standpoint of what works best for you,” she said. “It makes it easier for everyone. I can still be involved in the process. I am still there to do whatever I can.”

She has some advice for other agents as well, she said. Get back in touch as much as you can if you want to make the sale or get help with a sale.

“Many don’t respond to emails, texts, or phone calls very quickly and I don’t understand that,” she said. “I’ll just move on to another property where an agent will respond. There’s no time to waste in this business.”

Calton said her time in the Air Force Reserves helps her understand the challenges military families and veterans face when it comes to finding homes. Although it might not be a permanent home, they still want the nicest place available.

It’s also been her experience, she said, that they come into the home search with a preconception — which she said helps her help them.

“They’ve experienced a lot of moves. They know what they want. We speak the same language,” she said. “And when they do get ready for that permanent home, it’s a smooth process.”

As for her goals moving forward, again, she is simple but to the point.

“To stay current in this ever-changing market and serve more veteran families,” she said. “I like where I am now and serving other agents. It’s a good way to make a living.”
