The Lakewood Lovely With a Curious Street Name

Share News:

There’s no more memorable street name in Lakewood than Bob O’ Link Drive. This Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate listing by Susan Nelson Wheeler and Rhoni Golden sits majestically on this coveted residential street near Abrams and Mockingbird. But who is Bob O’ Link in Dallas? A Dallas luminary, maybe an entertaining older gentleman named Robert but his friends call him Bob? Longtime Lakewood residents know.

They can recall O’ Link fondly, remembering the good times had together and just as vividly, remembering the times they left his company frustrated. Generations of Lakewood residents knew O’ Link from 1924 to 1971, when he was practically a neighborhood fixture.

That’s because longtime Lakewood residents know that Bob O’ Link Drive was named for the bygone Bob O’Links Golf Course, a public neighborhood course built on a portion of the McCommas family’s 600 acres, stretching from Abrams to White Rock Lake. Rows of elegant 1940s Dutch Colonials lined this northern border of the golf course, where the upper echelon moved to be out in the countryside, yet close to town.

This 1941 Dutch Colonial home for sale is 2,954 square feet with four bedrooms and four baths, set over two-stories. From the spacious front porch — with room for two sets of neighborly conversations, step inside to the entry with the spacious dining room with built-ins at left and the inviting living room at right.

The listing agent Susan Wheeler points out that no detail has been overlooked in this meticulously updated home. Co-listing agent Rhoni Golden agrees.

“We had a broker open house today and one agent described this home perfectly,” Golden says. ”He said the home was perfectly buttoned up and I agreed. ‘Yes, that’s what it is!’”

But buttoned up doesn’t mean stuffy. “It’s refined but very livable and built to live comfortably. You can tell the original architect or builder thought everything out,” Golden says.

The owners remodeled the kitchen and replaced all appliances with top-of-the-line Wolf and SubZero appliances. Yes, that’s the glass-front Sub-Zero fridge you see there. The large kitchen island has seating that looks out to the expansive living room, plus a breakfast nook tucked into a quiet corner.

A downstairs half bath sits just off the office nook. Upstairs, the primary bedroom is spacious and leads to a luxurious bathroom with dual vanities, a soaking tub, a large shower, and a walk-in closet. The guest bedroom has an en suite bath and the remaining bedrooms are served by a large shared bathroom with a separate wet area. A covered patio with a built-in grill and comfortable seating area round out this lovely Lakewood home.

Susan Nelson Wheeler and Rhoni Golden of Dave Perry-Miller have listed 6463 Bob O’Link Drive for $1.4 million. They are hosting an open house Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24 from 1 to 3 p.m.
