These Homes Are Special: Unique Examples of Common Home Issues

After you’ve done several thousand home inspections, some common themes emerge. People tend to neglect the same kinds of things in their homes, and of course, Mother Nature affects the homes in a particular area in the same sorts of ways.

However, sometimes common issues manifest themselves in a particularly unique way. Like a leaky faucet? Super common. A leaky faucet that leaks so long it rots through the flooring and the ceiling below? Unique.

1. Garage Door Guillotine

Unless it’s brand new, there’s almost always something wrong with the garage door. Garage doors are equipped with lasers that are set 6-12 inches from the floor to sense whether someone or something is blocking the door, and will stop it from closing and crushing whatever it is.

This handy homemaker said, “Nah, we’ll risk it,” taped the laser sensors together, and attached them to the garage door opener.

2. Let’s Blow The Hair Off The Dog

Water pressure gets a little high or low all the time — it’s just a thing to be aware of and adjust as needed. This pressure gauge is measuring the water pressure at the outside hose bib. Normal pressure would be between 40 and 80psi. So this one is super high — like peel-the-paint-off-the-deck high.

3. Jenga Roof

Again, unless it’s new, there’s usually some kind of roof issue – from normal wear and tear to roofs that need replacing. This roof decking is holding on by a thread. In the video, it’s interesting to see what the damage looks like from both sides.
