A Farmers Market Townhome That Has Seen Downtown Dallas’ Transformation

Share News:

When I moved to Dallas in 2005, it was to work for The Dallas Morning News. Fresh out of college and still learning about the world, it felt like a strange privilege to work for incredibly meager pay (It was bad, y’all) with some bona fide journalism legends.

One of those legends was Keven Ann Willey, who was the editorial page editor at the paper. I cannot tell you how intimidating that first Christmas party was.

Well, at least at first.

Keven brought our small department together in her Farmers Market townhome just down the road from The Rock of Truth on Canton St. where the neighborhood meets Deep Ellum and treated us to delicious wine and incredible food from her husband, Georges, a Belgian chef.

I got to enjoy a few Christmas parties and book exchanges at Keven and Georges’ place, and though it was built in 2001 — one of the first townhome developments to go up in the area — it always fits a crowd comfortably. What stories they could tell if these walls could talk!

Staged to Sell

Of course, looking at the listing photos, this three-bedroom, three-bathroom Farmers Market townhome has received a bit of a facelift before hitting the market. Obviously, Keven and Georges are smart sellers and staged the 2,463-square-foot property with white paint (makes spaces look bigger and brighter), modern LED lighting fixtures (energy efficiency), and modern furnishings with pared-down accessories (broad market appeal).

The kitchen, well, Georges is a chef after all. If it worked for him, you know it will work for you. All you have to do is stroll three blocks from your front door and hit up the Farmers Market for your ingredients and then settle in for a relaxing afternoon from the light and bright space. There is a six-burner gas cooktop and a great view of downtown from the sink.

The home has three levels, with the primary suite situated on the third floor. There’s a rooftop deck and it’s accessible from the attic bonus space, which can be built out, says listing agent Michael Brink with Keller Williams Urban Dallas.

Taking Off From Farmers Market

To be sure, Keven and Georges haven’t put many miles on their Farmers Market townhome in the past few years. They’ve been putting more of them on their Casita — the same one that the pair drove in their adventure around the perimeter of the United States.

Keven, in a post on facebook, announced the listing with news that she and Georges are downsizing and moving to Tucson to be closer to family. While Dallas will miss Keven and Georges, we know that this spot will find a buyer that appreciates everything downtown Dallas has to offer.

Michael Brink of Keller Williams Urban Dallas has listed 2225 Canton St. Apt. 127 for $569,000.

Open Houses: 2-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 23-24
