Become the Jay Gatsby of West Dallas in This Promontory on The Trinity

West Dallas is booming with new construction, and one of its exemplar homes is 1519 Bayside Street. It’s a sleek, imaginative modern design, but as a feature that still has to compete with the area’s abundant views. From the outset of planning, the home’s builder and architect took pains to maximize the home’s sightlines.

With enormous windows and a second-floor patio space, they succeeded. It’s this week’s High Caliber Home of the Week, sponsored by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans.

“We call it the peninsula home,” says listing agent Rob Elmore. “It has a perch at the end of the block that provides that sweeping view of downtown and the viaduct.”

You don’t even have to leave the living room to feast your eyes. There are tall windows on three walls, one of which frames up the downtown skyline like an added piece of wall art.

The kitchen adjoins this space, festooned with a gigantic island with seating for four, and a side bar with wine refrigerator. There’s a dining table to one side of this open floor plan.

Upstairs, the spacious primary suite has a quieter atmosphere with fewer windows. It adjoins the long primary bath with a soaking tub and enormous double shower.

At 3,117 square feet, the house has multiple spaces that are ripe for conversion to en suite bedrooms.

“The staging is more an ‘adult home’ than a family home right now,” says Elmore, “but that’s all easily customizable.”

The main space upstairs has a luxurious covered outdoor patio in view of downtown, and would easily convert to a bedroom. Or there’s the downstairs office, with adjoining bathroom and walk-in closet.

The cut of this home’s profile will make you the Jay Gatsby of Dallas’s West Egg, a promontory on the Trinity River that arouses curiosity or just makes a great black tie party destination. It’s easily accessible via Singleton (and Trinity Groves) or Sylvan Avenue.

Take a cue from the imaginative design, and get imaginative about how you’d deploy all that choice space.

Rob Elmore of Dave Perry-Miller InTown has listed 1519 Bayside Street for $775,000.

Born downtown at Baylor and raised in North Dallas, Daniel Hightower Smith loves the shifty currents of real estate.
