One Listing, Two Infinitely Different Approaches to Staging

Share News:

Sometimes, we get homes that are staged well. Sometimes the staging is uh, a little dubious. Sometimes it doesn’t exist at all.

But this week’s Wednesday WTF is a unicorn — we get two approaches to staging in the same property, and they couldn’t be more different yet totally conjoined in their ability to make you question why you have the Internet.

I jokingly called it a whole book entitled, “Don’t Stage Like This, But Don’t Do THAT Either.”

Our home this week is in South Lake Tahoe. Not being from the Lake Tahoe area, I’m not sure if that’s better or worse, but I do know that from the jump, the listing photos set you on your ear.

But before we look at some pictures, let’s see if the listing description gives us any context clues:

“With a little love, this duplex has great income property potential. Centrally located and close to casinos, beaches, shopping, skiing and the only cinema in town. There is a spacious 3 bedroom 2 bathroom unit upstairs and a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom unit with a 1 car garage downstairs. Large driveway that can accommodate numerous cars. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity! Property to be sold ‘as-is’.”

So yeah, this explains a lot.

For instance, why the first half of the pictures look like the occupants were raptured or kidnapped.

I mean, were the occupants given zero notice, or did they just give zero uh, coituses?

Want a headboard, without the fuss of a mattress that is the width of the headboard? Try this. Or don’t (please don’t).

But then we get to the second half of the listing photos, and I was not prepared for it. Not at all. These people do some next-level staging but also no.

I mean …

They’re “smizing.”
Darlene here is here to tell you that an unmade bed is the sign of an untidy mind.
And these folks are straight up here for your kidneys. Or an orgy. Or both.

I mean, I have so many questions. Do all the mannequins live there all the time? Did this side of the duplex get the Post-It on their door from the landlord and try to put in some extra effort? Are these the tenants?

I’m like, brain broke over this.

Adlene has been a real estate writer for the better half of a decade, but only recently came to CandysDirt.com to write our Wednesday WTF column. Have a doozy of a listing not fit for public consumption? She wants to see it.

Or, there is a tenant living in the lower level who REALLY doesn’t want the property to sell. Explanation for all the mannequins is probably a bit complex…..
