Budget-Friendly Loft Living in One of Our Favorite Buildings

On the outskirts of the State-Thomas neighborhood in Dallas’ Uptown area is Griggs Park — an outstanding urban green space with pretty much the best views of the Dallas skyline from the north. And just north of Griggs Park is the 588 Lofts building. For those who want the Uptown lifestyle but want some distance from the deep bass of the popular entertainment district’s nightlife, you really can’t do much better than this building.

But not all units at the 588 Lofts building are alike, and not all of them are budget-friendly. Luckily, Dallas City Center Realtor Michael McQuay has a listing that is both move-in ready and affordable. Making it this week’s Inwood National Bank Home of the Week was practically a no-brainer.

This gorgeous one-bedroom, one-full-and-one-half-bath unit at 588 Lofts is move-in ready, with artfully stained and polished concrete floors on the first level and a loft bedroom up the spiral staircase. Totaling 1,001 square feet, not only does this loft feel light and bright, but it’s also incredibly efficient.

“The kitchen cabinet space has been expanded and redone,” McQuay notes, “as were the cabinets in both bathrooms and the utility room, so there is great storage space.”

I’m a huge fan of repurposing, so I’d probably figure out a way to negotiate in that huge bay of old-school lockers in the contract. However, the genius of this kitchen is in the oversized eat-in island, which does double-duty as your dining table or a buffet.

But some upgrades to this loft aren’t so easily noticed. “The water heater is recently updated and additional lighting has been installed in the living room,” says McQuay. “The oversized spiral staircase has been upgraded, and the landing has been expanded to the master bedroom.”

“Worried about moving in your master bedroom furniture?” asks McQuay. “The rail easily removes to allow placement or lift of larger furniture.”

And are you worried about waking with the sun? The windows have added tint and infrared electric shades, keeping your pad cool and dark for as long as you’d like.

But what’s even more remarkable than this fantastic first-floor unit at 588 lofts is how affordable it is considering what you get for your monthly payment. McQuay says that this building has some of the lowest HOAs in Uptown, and it doesn’t skimp on amenities, either. You get access to a gym, pool, rooftop deck, and lounge.

Michael McQuay with Dallas City Center Realtors has listed Unit 133 at 3110 Thomas Ave. for $356,900.
