Splurge vs Steal: Hollywood Heights Tudors

Share News:

A little south of White Rock Lake, the Hollywood Heights neighborhood is a conservation district full of 1920’s Tudor-style houses. The appeal is enormous to homebuyers, and families love that the area is in the attendance zone for the beloved and award-winning Lakewood Elementary.

Our Splurge vs Steal this week takes us to Hollywood Heights to look at two Tudors. Which one is your favorite?

SPLURGE: OVER 2,500 SQUARE FEET WITH A SWIMMING POOL

The Tudor at 418 Valencia St. is updated and expanded with three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, one half bath, three living areas, and 2,580 square feet on two stories, built in 1929. Located near La Vista Drive and East Grand Avenue, it is in the heart of Hollywood Heights, walking distance to Lakewood Shopping Center and close to the Santa Fe Trail and Tenison Park Golf Course.

This house features original stained glass windows and other impressive architectural details, as well as original hardwood floors, fresh paint, and plantation shutters. The updated kitchen has white cabinets, an island, and stainless steel appliances, including double ovens. Additional space upstairs would make a great fourth bedroom, study, or craft room. In back, there is a two-car garage, swimming pool, and patio.

This home was listed July 23 by Kim Sinnott with Ebby Halliday Realtors for $639K, reduced to $629,000.

STEAL: TWO-BEDROOM WITH GREAT UPDATED MASTER BEDROOM

Just a short distance away, the house at 414 Monte Vista Dr. has everything you could want in a Tudor, with some great updates, too. This home has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and 1,470 square feet on one story, built in 1929.

This house is move-in ready, a beautiful combination of period features and modern renovations. The original tile fireplace, leaded glass front window, original hardware, and archways help retain the 1920’s charms. A remodeled kitchen has new custom cabinetry, high-end gas range with vent hood, granite countertops, and a decorative tile backsplash. The gutted master bathroom is lovely with a frameless glass shower and generous vanity with stone countertop. Other features of this house include large bedrooms, a study, plantation shutters, refinished hardwood floors, new light fixtures, fresh paint, and a recently built garage.

This house was listed Sept. 29 by Ross Spencer with Gilchrist & Company Real Estate for $499,000.
