Outdoor Spaces Feature Big in these DFW Open Houses, with a Frank Welch Design

Share News:

A cold front during our Texas summer means temperatures in the 80s this weekend — which has us thinking of outdoor living and all its possibilities.

So for this week’s CandysDirt.com Open Houses of the Week, we’re focusing on DFW open houses that feature grand outdoor spaces in one form or another. These are three fabulous properties, including one designed by Texas Modern architect Frank Welch. They range in price from $559,000 to $975,000. Which ones will you visit?

Open house: Sunday, Aug. 12, 1-3 p.m.

The home at 4012 Buena Vista St. is a rare find, a design by Frank Welch, an extraordinarily talented Texas Modern architect who built significant homes around the area. This townhome feels like a retreat with a bright, open floorplan that organically connects to an expansive outdoor living space. This home has two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, one half bath, and 2,232 square feet on two stories, built in 1971.

Part of the connection of indoors and outdoors happens because natural light flows freely throughout, from the wall of glass in living overlooking the outdoor space, to skylights that illuminate. An updated kitchen offers newer cabinets, granite countertops, an island, and high-end Viking, Miele, and Gaggenau stainless steel appliances. Each of the bedrooms has a sliding glass door looking out to back. The master bedroom has a fireplace, hardwood floors, California closet system, and ensuite bath with a sleek look. This townhome is walking distance to Katy Trail, West Village, and Cole Park.

This home was listed July 13 by Jeff Mitchell with Modern Living Real Estate for $975,000. Monthly HOA fees are $150 and include management fees.

Open house: Sunday, Aug. 12, 2-4 p.m.

Situated on a lush half-acre lot, the Farmers Branch house at 2823 Reedcroft Dr. is on Malon Creek and  has remarkable outdoor spaces. Although is located a few blocks north of LBJ off Josey Lane and only 13 miles to downtown Dallas, it feels like a secluded getaway. This home has four bedrooms, three bathrooms, three living areas, two dining areas, and 2,629 square feet on one story, built in 1966.

The house was custom built to take advantage of the water views from many of its rooms. The interior feels dated, but it all has huge potential and great bones. For example, a floor-to-ceiling wraparound stone fireplace anchors the front living area with its dramatic vaulted and beamed ceiling. This room leads to a second living area with a wall of windows. The fourth bedroom is split and is close to the kitchen and garage, making it an ideal in-law suite. Other updates to the house include a new 45-year roof and exterior gutters.

This home was listed July 26 by Jeffrey Neal with Keller Williams Realty Dallas Preston Road for $519,000.

Open house: Sunday, Aug. 12, 2-4 p.m.

Sitting right on The Colony’s Stewart Creek Golf Course, 3813 Shoal Creek Dr. makes the most of its outdoor spaces and nearby lake views with a pergola-covered patio with an outdoor kitchen, multiple seating areas, manicured landscaping, and clear lines of sight onto the greens. This home has four bedrooms, three full bathrooms, one half bath, two living areas, two dining areas, office, and 3,853 square feet on two stories, built in 2007.

Inside, you’ll find features like hand-scraped hardwood floors, plantation shutters, crown molding, and tailored drapery. The family room has an Austin stone fireplace, built-ins, and great views of the golf course. In the kitchen, there are custom cabinets, an island, granite countertops, butler’s pantry, and commercial-grade stainless steel appliances, including double ovens. The master is on the first floor with three bedrooms up, as well as a game room and media room. The house also has a three-car garage.

This home was listed July 12 by Scott and Tammy Watson with Keller Williams Realty Dallas Preston Road for $579K, reduced to $559,000.
