Stellar Oak Cliff Midcentury Has Us Over The Rainbow

Share News:

When a true midcentury beauty comes on the market, I almost instantly fall in love. This particular home is in one of my favorite North Oak Cliff neighborhoods, too, and on one of my favorite streets, to boot!

It’s an exceedingly private home on an enormous lot situated on Guggenheim Acres’ Rainbow Drive, and this listing from David Griffin is a shoo-in for our High Caliber Home of the Week presented by Lisa Peters at Caliber Home Loans

“The home itself is very stylish and well updated,” Griffin said. “However, what really takes your breath away on Rainbow is the setting.  To find over two acres so close to downtown in what is unarguably one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the city is rare coin.”

The drive-up at 626 Rainbow Drive is telling, that’s for sure. Pass through a wrought iron gate to the long driveway, which offers a motor court of sorts encircling a large patch of lush grass. This is what real privacy feels like in North Oak Cliff, and it allows you to let the kids run wild through the immense 2.2-acre lot. The home is the perfect size — spacious but not so large that it takes away from the beautiful creekside lot — with four bedrooms, four full baths, one powder bath, and two living areas within 4,433 square feet. There’s ample room for a pool, which would be just the thing for this lush landscape. Griffin has listed this property for $1.995 million — a price that’s more than fair considering what you get.

“Everything about the property is postcard worthy,” Griffin gushed. “You enter the gated estate via a bridge that traverses a limestone-banked, spring-fed creek that runs along the northerly boundary. The southerly boundary is a forested hillside!”

Despite the active topography surrounding the lot, the property is flat and user friendly, he added. “There is also the option for investment and potential development because the land is zoned R75, which translates into the potential of subdividing it into 7,500-foot lots.”

But lets put that idea in the back-burner, because there’s still quite a lot to love about 626 Rainbow Drive as it is. The home was recently updated and has such beautiful views of the surrounding greenery through the large windows throughout the first floor. Beautiful hardwoods underfoot offer a clean, modern foil to the rich exposed brick, which runs throughout the home and plays a leading role in the oversized master suite. The kitchen is fully modern, too, with a bright white palette and sleek cabinetry that makes the rays from the skylights illuminate the whole room.

Though it was built in 1958, this beautiful midcentury easily translates to today’s lifestyles, with a wide open floor plan and vaulted ceilings — perfect for entertaining. There’s also a wonderful sitting area in the master suite, which is separated by the main bedroom area by a double-sided fireplace. The master bath benefited from a recent facelift, sporting the most perfect corner window wrapping the bath tub.

Just imagine watching sunsets in this backyard with family and friends, letting the kids run wild as you enjoy the privacy and spaciousness. What’s not to love?
