Just northeast of Buckner Terrace is an area called Hillview Terrace. Like its southern neighbor, this is an up-and-coming part of East Dallas. Housing is still affordable and it is close to White Rock Lake, the Arboretum, and Casa Linda.

Our Tuesday Two Hundred, located at 2332 Homeway Cir., is near the split of Interstate 30 and Highway 80, close to John West Road and North Buckner Boulevard. This renovated ranch offers pretty spaces and updated style in its 1,847 square feet, with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, two dining areas, and two living areas, built in 1968.

Hillview Terrace is a small neighborhood that hasn’t gotten much attention, until recently. But with housing prices skyrocketing throughout East Dallas, people looking for houses under $300K are moving deeper into the area, finding areas like this one with ranches built in the 1960s. Like Buckner Terrace, flippers are honing in on Hillview Terrace and buying those homes, updating them with modern buyer wants, like renovated kitchen and bathrooms, more open spaces, and brighter interiors.

This house sits on a tree-lined street and it’s drive up appeal pleases with a brick exterior, black shutters, and a mature shade tree. Some new landscaping and fresh beds dot the facade, but like the backyard, it is largely a blank slate waiting for the next owner’s design choices.

Inside, the owners have kept much of the original floorplan, with formal living and dining areas in the front of the house, and a second living area and the kitchen behind that. Classic ranch layout. The color scheme is neutral and welcoming and laminate floors look like the real deal. It would be nice to see recessed lights instead of track lighting in the front living area, but at least it’s a modern take. Over the dining area, a farmhouse-style chandelier looks on-trend and a huge bay window makes this area light and bright.

In second living area, an outdated fireplace was made into a decorative whole-wall feature with a contemporary tile treatment. Wood beams run across the ceiling and new French doors lead to the backyard.

A kitchen renovation is mandatory in these 1960’s ranches if you’re wanting to appeal to buyers, and the owners did just that. The eat-in kitchen now offers granite countertops, Shaker-style white cabinets, white subway tile backsplash, and stainless steel appliances, including a gas range. Unfortunately, that track lighting makes an appearance again, but like we said before, at least it’s a contemporary version. The eat-in area features a cool atomic-era light fixture and an additional bank of built-in cabinets and shelves.

The master bathrooms is lovely, with dual sinks and a pretty tile treatment in the shower, not to mention white cabinets and marble countertops. The secondary bathroom also has two sinks — white vessel sinks — and walnut-colored cabinets with a walk-in shower with white subway tile and a river rock floor. All three bedrooms have new carpet, new doors, and lots of windows to make them bright.

The backyard is a blank slate and good sized, with a small concrete patio and wood privacy fence.

Nice re-do. I agree, track lighting is not appealing. Not hard to put cans in.
