Beautiful Brick Victorian in Historic Peak’s Addition

If you’ve already fallen in love with Peaks Suburban Addition after learning more about this historic, close-in neighborhood from writer Cherry Kelln, then you’re about to get a case of the vapors. Find your fainting couch, because this week’s High Caliber Home of the Week sponsored by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans is a stunning 1905 Victorian in this sought-after neighborhood.

“It’s one of the only, if not the only brick Victorian home in Dallas,” says listing agent Teresa Costa. As you’d expect, this home has stunning curb appeal, looking as if it was pulled from the turn of the century thanks to this neighborhood’s historic designation. And while there are a few Victorians in Peak’s Addition, this one truly stands out, easily earning it the title of High Caliber Home of the Week.

Of course, while 4503 Junius St. looks like the setting from a period drama from the curb, it has benefitted from some truly marvelous updates inside.

“Peaks Suburban Addition is the earliest developed portion of East Dallas, as well as its oldest residential neighborhood,” Costa said. “It began with the large estate Colonel Jefferson Peak built in 1855 on the corner of what is now Worth and Peak.”

That home was the first brick house in Dallas, Costa noted. “Several of the major streets in East Dallas were named after his children, including Junius, Worth, Victor, and Carroll,” she added. “My listing is on the corner of two of those — Junius and Carroll.”

Every year, this lovely historic neighborhood sandwiched between Deep Ellum and Lakewood hosts Porch Fest, which is exactly as it sounds. This six-bedroom, six-bath brick Victorian has an ample wrap-around porch, which is sure to be a highlight.

“It’s a very close neighborhood with lots of community involvement,” Costa said. “Various neighbors host porch happy hours in the spring and early summer. Different residents provide the porch each time and neighbors are invited to come by. It’s great way to have fun and get to know everyone!”

Inside, this home is truly grand, notes Costa. “Original features include hardwood floors, transom windows, double pocket doors, wavy float glass windows, and glass doorknobs,” she said. In all, this home holds almost 4,300 square feet over two stories. That’s immense! It’s beautiful to see wide trim and millwork, as well as tall French doors dividing the parlor from the study. I rather like the bold color on the walls in the parlor, as well as the Art Nouveau wallpaper in the dining room. There are two fireplaces, both of which are on the first floor.
The kitchen was recently updated, bathed in marble and bright white cabinetry. Double ovens, two dishwashers, two sinks, and a 36-inch, six-burner gas cooktop make this spot well equipped for entertaining. Costa notes that there’s room for two refrigerators, too.

There are two masters — one upstairs and one down — with two full baths on the downstairs level. All of the bathrooms have been updated, Costa noted.

Costa, a David Griffin & Co. Realtor, has listed 4503 Junius St. for $899,000.

The house is amazing – so nice to see all that detail intact.

But that Kitchen, while certainly nice, just DOES NOT fit the home . very Sad.

I don’t know — I kind of love it. Marble is timeless, and while the rest of the home feels heavy with period details, I prefer a bright and accessible kitchen.
