Splurge vs Steal: Take Your Pick in East Dallas’ Casa Linda Estates
Share News:
This is the first of a new occasional column here on CandysDirt.com, Splurge vs Steal. We’ll be looking at homes that offer something in common, but have a big difference in their asking price.
Casa Linda Estates sits on the northeast shores of White Rock Lake, offering close proximity to one of the city’s biggest natural assets. The neighborhood has about 450 homes, most of them built during the 1940s and 1950s. With large lots, big trees, and community pride, this area is popular among East Dallas house hunters.
Today, we’re looking at two Casa Linda Estates homes, one a splurge and the other a steal. Both offer a terrific location near each other and sit on larger parcels of land. But their prices are miles apart. Let’s take a look!
Splurge: Casa Linda Estates Beauty with 2,900 Square Feet, Fab Outdoor Living
Outdoor living takes center stage at 9307 Redondo Dr. There’s a fab swimming pool and spa, large covered patio, built-in barbecue, fireplace, removable mosquito screens, arching shade trees, a playhouse, and beautiful landscaping on just over a third of an acre.
The inside’s pretty amazing, too, with three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and 2,918 square feet on two stories. You’ll find hardwood floors, crown molding, recessed lighting, and a master suite with a bonus space that could be a study or nursery. That room also has a bathroom with a contemporary soaker tub and large walk-in closet. The kitchen features granite countertops, tons of light-wood cabinets, large island with seating, and stainless steel appliances, including a Viking professional-grade gas range. The upstairs room is versatile and huge — it could be a second living area, second master, or game room.
This home was listed June 16 by Shana Acquisto with Acquisto Real Estate for $800,000.
Steal: Casa Linda Estates Home on Almost Half an Acre with Swimming Pool
The exterior may look more traditional, but the home at 1214 N. Selva Dr. is all about sleek, contemporary looks inside. Sitting on almost half an acre, the house features a beautiful, open layout filled with natural light. It has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, two living areas, two dining areas, and 2,119 square feet on one story, built in 1948.
Recent renovations have opened up the common areas of this property, and there’s great flow from one space to the next. The kitchen has a breakfast bar with granite — the rest of the kitchen has tile countertops — and is open to the dining and family rooms. Love the modern, sparkly chandelier above the island. The master bedrooms sits apart from the other rooms, offering a walk-in closet. Other features of this home include a mudroom, separate study-home office area, and fireplace in one of the living rooms. The backyard feels huge, even with a large swimming pool, and has landscaping, a mature shade tree, covered patio, and storage shed.
This home was listed April 6 by Beth Arnold with Local Resident Realty for $439K, reduced to $419,900.
Dang! What bang for your buck on the “Steal”!
Love the concept for this article
Great concept! Really will be helpful in mature neighborhoods where “comps” are all over the board.
I looked at the one that is supposedly a steal and the only thing that will get stolen is the buyer’s money. Backs up to a busy road, very awkward layout, needs lots of work. The photos are very forgiving.
