Lakewood is becoming the catch-all neighborhood for much of East Dallas between Skillman and White Rock Lake, but that large area actually contains tons of smaller neighborhoods that each have their own unique character.

Take Wilshire Heights for example. This cute little area is sandwiched between Skillman Street on the west, Mockingbird Lane on the north, Abrams Road on the east, and McCommas on the south. It feeds into Stonewall Jackson Elementary School, but definitely has a more relaxed and friendly feel. It’s a hotspot for teardowns, with builders seeing the appeal of the shady lanes and deep lots.

Still, there are tons of great existing homes in the area, including this super cute Austin stone cottage on Kenwood. Let’s take a closer look!

Located just across the street from St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School, 6311 Kenwood is located on the Abrams side of Wilshire Heights, right in the middle of the neighborhood. While some might think that living across from a school would be a negative, I think it’s truly a great thing. By the time you finish your short commute from downtown Dallas to your home, school is out and over with, leaving you with little traffic around your home and plenty of open space. Another bonus on the area is that Wilshire Heights has a wonderfully active neighborhood watch. People really do look out for each other here, and you can keep an eye out for your neighbors from your spacious front porch.

In all, this listing from Keller Williams agent Kimberly Rae Brown has three bedrooms, three full baths, one fireplace, and almost 2,700 square feet. It’s a great size for a family, and it’s price well in line with the neighborhood at $575,000. There’s also a second living area, a large sunroom, and a five-piece master suite.

What really stands out to me is the flow of the home. You’re drawn from the stylish living room to the open dinging room and to the warm kitchen quite easily. That’s a tremendous asset for those who love to entertain. Additionally, there are some really well-designed built ins that allow plenty of light to move through the rooms.

A pergola covers the back patio and driveway, which is a wonderful spot to hang out when the weather permits. We can just imagine a container garden and maybe even a hot tub finding a home back here. What do you think?
