Will Ashton Theiss win The Amazing Race? Watch Thursdays at 9 p.m. on CBS

Fort Worth real estate agent Ashton Theiss of Rogers Healy & Associates will be a contestant in the upcoming television reality show The Amazing Race.  The first episode airs this Thursday on CBS 11 at 9 p.m.

If you have never seen The Amazing Race (me included) it is a show where 11 pairs of eager contestants travel the globe racing against one another and time to accomplish tasks and show feats of strength first in order to take home a $1 million prize.

This season is the 29th of the series.  Unlike previous seasons where the contestant pairs knew one another, this year none of the participants know their new partners.

For Theiss, a former Miss Texas contestant, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.  “It was a no-brainer when they asked me to be on the show,” says the Fort Worth Realtor.  “Not many people in the world will get the chance to race around the world to nine countries, 17 cities, and 36,000 miles for a TV show.”

During the journey there were ups and downs for Ashton.  The hardest part, she said, was not having anyone she knew on the show and realizing that not everyone is a trustworthy as most Texans.

“I’m a nitty-gritty Texan that grew up in the country,” she said. “I have two degrees, love boxing, guns, and hunting.  In Texas, a handshake means a lot, but on the show, when forming alliances, it’s hard to know who to trust.”

While she was unable to share any inside secrets about the show, she did say that being a Realtor did help her as she navigated not only alliances with other teams, but also the ability to make backup plans when things didn’t work as intended.

“In real estate it’s so competitive,” Theiss said. “You not only have to think on your toes and be a ‘people person,’ but you have to have a Plan B or Plan C when it’s a multiple offer situation or you are dealing with high-maintenance clients.”

So what would Ashton do with $500,000 should she be the lucky winner of The Amazing Race?

“Oh that’s easy,” she exclaims. “I want to use my real estate knowledge to take that $500,000 and turn it into $5 million by buying the right properties and flipping them in the area.  You have to have a plan to take money and make more money.”

Tune in Thursdays at 9:00 p.m. on CBS to see if Ashton can be truly amazing.
