For the most part, I’m not a “big house” person. Small, compact, well-planned homes are more my jam. Still, part of me loves the idea of versatile, wide-open floor plans with plenty of room to spread out. Often times, though, homes that start to cross into the realm of 4,000 square feet feel sterile in all of their open space. However, in the case of this listing from Dallas City Center Realtors David and Sharon Cox at 5332 Miller Ave. in Vickery Place, the spaces are expansive, yet still warm and inviting. And with four bedrooms, four full and one half baths, and 4,189 square feet replete with oodles of storage, you’ll find tons of opportunities to stow clutter and fill these rooms with laughter, not junk. The Cox team has this home on the market for $827,000.

Right when you enter, you’ll notice how well-scaled this home is, built in 2006. With fresh neutral paint, warm slate floors, wide crown moulding, and excellent lighting, you can already tell that for its size, it is quite inviting. Through those glass doors is a small guest bedroom with an en-suite bath, which could also double as a home office. From its French doors, you can walk out to a small front porch, perfect for enjoying a beverage at any hour and hailing the many neighbors that walk the quiet streets of this neighborhood.

A beautiful granite boulder sink is perched upon a rustic vanity in the attached guest bathroom. It’s definitely a conversation starter, says Realtor Sharon Cox, who took me on a tour of this home during her open house on Wednesday. “I love the stone,” Cox said, “and this is just a huge rock!” It’s perfect for the space, too, which strikes a balance between cool neutrals and the warmth of the the antiqued hardware.

The kitchen, which is large enough to accommodate a crowd during the holidays but not so huge that nothing is inaccessible. Custom cabinetry is plentiful but not excessive, and we love the contrasting antique white island and functional eat-in breakfast bar. Double ovens, a built-in microwave, a French Door refrigerator/freezer, large gas cooktop, and expansive granite counters make this kitchen both stylish and functional. Through the door to the right of the refrigerator is a huge walk-in pantry. So much storage in this home!

“I a a huge kitchen and entertaining person, so I love the flow of this kitchen, dining, and living area,” Cox said.

And just beyond the kitchen is a large wet bar with adjacent wine cellar. We love the dark granite countertops, which won’t be hurt should someone forget to wrap the Pinot Noir bottle. There’s so much storage here for your spirits and mixers, too. Just beyond the iron and glass door is a built-in ice maker, wine cooler, and mini refrigerator. Imagine the parties you could throw with this set up! Just don’t forget to invite us!

Just beyond the bar is the dining area, which feels like a chef’s table as it’s so close to the kitchen and right next to the bar. No longer must you make the long hike from the kitchen to the table should your drink need freshening. It’s all right there! Notice the fireplace, which is a double-sided, built-in gas unit surrounded by granite. It goes perfectly with the hardwood floors that run from the dining room to the formal living room. The ceilings, which are approximately 24 feet high, add some drama to the space. The second-story windows bring in even more natural light.

And though we really love the warm palette and the iron accents in this traditional style, we feel like it needs more glitz. Luckily, we found that in the master bedroom.5332 Miller Master 5332 Miller Master 2 5332 Miller Master Bath 2 5332 Miller Master Bed 5332 Miller Master Closet

“Everyone gets more storage in this home,” Cox said. And we have to agree. Each bedroom has a walk-in closet, plus the walk-in storage outside the upstairs den and billiard area. There’s attic space, too. And in the master suite, there’s a custom closet that you may not want to share. The master bath, a five-piece bath with a large jetted tub, separate vanities, and a shower with three separate heads make this suite a retreat!

When entertaining, sometimes you have to accommodate the young ones, and nothing makes that easier than having a den and billiard area upstairs, complete with a media room. Sleepovers will never be easier!

But it’s the backyard, reminiscent of a Key West courtyard with a tidy pool, stained concrete patio, and outdoor shower, that really seals the deal on this home. It’s the perfect size, really. “The sellers have two dogs and the yard is just perfect for them,” Cox reassures. There’s a detached one-car garage with alley access in the back, as well as an attached garage. What a clever scheme! Plus, we love the way the landscape was designed, a vision from Maribeth Flowers, APLD.

If you’re already imagining the parties you can throw at 5332 Miller (really, how could you not?), get in touch with Cox for a tour so you can see how well it flows for yourself.
