Winnetka Heights is a real treasure of a neighborhood, one of the largest and oldest historical districts in Dallas — it was established in 1910. Driving or walking through its tree-lined streets in North Oak Cliff, the architecture shines. Prairie and Craftsman houses dominate the area.

Our Friday Five Hundred stands out with its color, character, and conveniences. Located at 701 S. Clinton Ave., this Craftsman has been painstakingly updated with modern amenities, but still retains the charmed feel you can only get in a historic house. It’s got five bedrooms, three bathrooms, and 2,958 square feet on two stories, built in 1930. Vintage features, like the wide front porch and coffered ceilings in the formal dining room, marry beautifully with updated features, like the backyard hot tub under a pergola and open concept kitchen.

Curb appeal creates a wonderful first impression of this Craftsman. With colorful front and side doors, new fence and fishscale wood accents, original gray brick, and a wide, grassy lawn, it is absolutely darling. Even the era-appropriate house numbers look great.

Inside, take a seat in the front living room with its original fireplace, multiple windows, and gorgeous pine hardwoods that carry throughout the house (except bathrooms). The floorplan is traditional for a Craftsman: front living room to formal dining room to kitchen and back living area. But there are tons of extras, like a small sitting area off the dining room, fabulous chandeliers and light fixtures, and ceiling treatments that wow.

The open kitchen is thoroughly modern, with a commercial-grade range, convection oven, gas cooktop, granite counters, and lots of cabinets and counter space. Also on the first floor, the spacious master and its ensuite bathroom — love the clawfoot tub.

On the second floor, three bedrooms, a full bathroom, craft room, laundry area, and sleeping porch. Several of these rooms overlook the private backyard, which offers a pergola-covered spa, detached two-car garage (rare in homes of this era), and a small shop area. There’s also plenty of grassy green space with mature trees.

This Winnetka Heights Craftsman was listed July 15 by Brian Ellison with Clay Stapp + Co. for $534,900. There is an open house this Sunday, July 24, from 1-3 p.m.
