Downtown Dallas Fireworks

Happy Independence Day, CandysDirt.com readers!

We are thrilled to live in a country where we are free to deliver the very best in real estate our region has to offer every day. To celebrate, we’ve put together a list of our favorite places to watch the best fireworks displays in town, and how we celebrate our nation’s birthday. The character of these neighborhoods shines through with their patriotic displays each July Fourth, and our writers tell us which ones they have a unique fondness for in their own words.

Enjoy!

Kaboom Town, Addison

Leah Shafer: Kaboom Town in Addison, because I have fond memories of driving there from work at Prestonwood Mall as a teenager. Super crowded, but great fireworks and lots of food nearby.

Valerie Jarvie: Addison Kaboom Town the evening of July 3rd, is a great way to kick off the holiday. It gets everyone in the spirit to decorate bikes and join the next morning neighborhood parade. Tonight we grill at home and take blankets and a boom box loaded with American tunes up to the lawn of a local church where we can see the show put on by a nearby country club. (Weather willing, tonight!)

Joanna England: Not only are the fireworks fantastic at this display just east of my White Rock Lake-area neighborhood, but it’s also less crowded than Addison’s Kaboom Town, and has a lot of families tailgating and hanging out in a very relaxed environment. It’s extremely kid friendly, with food, face painting, and bounce houses all day, leading up to a truly grand fireworks show.

Bethany Erickson: One year we got a hotel room downtown and watched the Fair Park fireworks in the air conditioning. With booze. That was probably my dead-level favorite. You just have to make sure you ask for a room with a view of Fair Park.

Dallas Country Club July 4th Fireworks Display

Candy Evans: The fireworks display at the Dallas Country Club is not only dazzling, it brings back fond memories of many wonderful July 4th holidays. When our children were young, my husband’s brother lived in Dallas — in Northwood Hills — and they would all come over for swimming and BBQ. Sometimes the kids would start an impromptu softball game in our huge backyard on Park Lane. Once everyone was fed and dry, we’d load the kids into the cars (my Volvo station wagon) with blankets and water and head to a street in Highland Park where they could sit on the roof of the car and watch the fireworks, oohing and ahhing over each successive display.

“This is the grand finale!” one would shout out.
“No, this is!”
We’ve been to Kaboom Town in Addison, too, which is just glorious. And the display at Fair Park seen from Ken Maxwell’s rooftop off Exposition is breathtaking! You can smell the sulphur, and I love it. It’s a small reminder that our freedoms did not come easily.
We have seen fireworks displays across the country, including one in the huge backyard of Joyce and Larry Lacerte at their home on Park Lane (before Kelcy Warren bought it) when Larry became a U.S. citizen. He was so thrilled he celebrated in Fourth of July style. Fireworks on July 4th is a wonderful tradition that brings back so many fond memories.

And they are also a gift from one neighborhood to anyone, really, who can see them. We lived in Preston Hollow, but Highland Park was happy to let us park there and enjoy.

All of them!

Downtown Dallas Fireworks

Jon Anderson: Since moving to Dallas, I’ve been sneaking onto downtown high-rise rooftops with friends, binoculars, and champagne to see 20 to 30 fireworks displays spread across the horizon. There is something to be said for friendship set against the silent backdrop of fireworks.
