When we spoke with Jane Turner of Classic Urban Homes the other day about what she saw at the recent International Builders Show and the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show, she mentioned how their buyers are often looking for “a bit of retro with the clean lines of contemporary.”

We found some great new colorful trends for the kitchen that we have added to our Lifestylist® List. Which ones would you like to see in your home?

Suzanne Kasler has created this colorful new line for La Cornue. When asked for her inspiration she shared that “You see the color pink everywhere while in Paris. It is used in such sophisticated and timeless ways, like nowhere else.” Her new Couleur Collection is full of pretty pastels, and is available in Dallas through Capital Distributing.

Don’t let these fun retro looking appliances from Northstar fool you — behind those doors offer what today’s serious home cooks are looking for. True convection ovens, super burners, and radiant high-speed elements are only a few of the options you can order. We especially loved the microwave. All of these would be perfect for a historical home renovation when you want the look but don’t want to give up performance.

We also spotted a few really fun designs at last year’s Architectural Digest Show that were the start of this trend – this custom designed plaid fridge by Big Chill was the heart of a social media campaign that was the talk of the show.

Emerald green was a crowd favorite color on this BlueStar wall oven. The French doors that are seen on the top of this unit are also a huge trend in luxury kitchen design.

For over 65 years Smeg has been a well known brand in Italy and they are now having more of a presence in the US. Their iconic and colorful refrigerator for which they are known is now available in a larger size with optional ice maker. I want one of these in pastel green in my studio!

Thermador is celebrating their 100 year anniversary, and their new 60-inch Pro Grand Range debuted at the Builders Show. The signature Thermador Sapphire Blue backsplash was stunning, and the antiqued glass tile that surrounded it made this a look that would have some staying power.

If you aren’t ready to invest in new appliances to update the look of your kitchen, try painting or replacing your existing cabinets or adding a colorful backsplash. Grey is the new neutral everywhere we look, and we give reality star Jeff Lewis a lot of credit for this. The great cabinets are a perfect backdrop for these colorful tiles.

There’s no doubt about it — today’s buyers are looking for ways to add their personality and style to their kitchens. How have you brought color into yours?

I’m eyeing the new KitchenAid black stainless steel with red accents on the handles that remind me of shell casings! At first I thought “ew” but the sleek lines and update from traditional stainless steel are intriguing…

Allows for more color if one chooses…textiles, backsplash, countertop…but has a classic vibe to mix with anything euro or retro.

Sounds like a great choice! I love all of these colors that we are seeing but keeping the color in the textiles, backsplash and countertops as you mentioned will make it easier to make changes when you choose to later. Let us know what you end up doing – we might feature it on CandysDirt.com !

Thanks for the link LonestarBabs -it’s great to see that companies are finally coming up with new color and material choices for the kitchen. I’ll have to see if I can find one of these somewhere and see it in person.
