Former Realtor From Grand Prairie Helps Take Down Violent Mexican Drug Cartel

After making several trips from Mexico to the U.S., shuttling cash and methamphetamines for the Jalisco New Generation drug cartel, Nicolas Salinas was nabbed by federal agents at the Laredo border crossing with nine kilograms of meth stashed in his vehicle.

That was in 2012, but news just broke that the former Realtor of more than a decade and owner of Mi Casa Remodeling and Management rolled on his former boss, Jalisco cartel chief Oscar “La Monia” Soto-Cabezas.

Soto-Cabezas remains a fugitive in Mexico, but more than a dozen cartel operatives have been convicted in federal court in Dallas of drug crimes, including the real estate agent, Nicolas Salinas.

Salinas, 36, worked closely with Soto-Cabezas and purchased a house for him in 2009 on Gibbs Williams Road in South Dallas to stash drugs, records show.

“At the direction of Soto-Cabezas, Salinas placed ownership of the residence in his name to avoid law enforcement detection,” court records said.

It all sounds a little unreal, doesn’t it? But as federal law enforcement continues to crack down on the business side of drug cartels, you can expect more stories like this.

It just goes to show how Realtors need to screen clients just as much as clients screen Realtors. And if a client makes you an offer you can’t refuse? Run the other direction if you know what’s good for you.
