Kathy Hewitt is an avid golfer, which is really perfect for a career in real estate. It’s how she learned to focus on clients, take her time, and that patience pays off.

She’s built a solid team in the Hewitt & Habgood Real Estate Group, which focuses on gorgeous single-family properties in Oak Cliff. Today she shares with us a her brand of wit and wisdom, as well as a few memories! Enjoy!

CandysDirt.com: Where are you from?

Kathy Hewitt: I grew up in Panama City, Panama – went to Arizona State University on a golf scholarship and graduated Cum Laude in Business from UT-Dallas.

CD: How did you get into real estate?

Hewitt: A friend of mine owned some rental property and needed someone to manage them – that’s when I found out you had to have a license to manage someone else’s property. My first real estate teacher, Dean Faas, became my first broker, mentor and dear friend.

CD: As an urban real estate team, are there any words of advice that you seem to offer most of your clients?

Hewitt:Your home is your best investment so take good care of it – and plant trees as soon as you buy – it’s amazing what it will do to the value of a home in a just a few years!

CD: Where is home for you in Dallas?

Hewitt: East Kessler Park. I’ve lived in North Oak Cliff for 22 years – I showed my home on Yakimo to clients and fell in love with it – luckily they chose to not buy it… then they called me a few weeks later asking about it and I said “that home already has a contract”… ☺

CD: And you drive a … let me guess, Mercedes Benz?

Hewitt: Lexus RX350

CD: What’s your favorite ‘hood in Dallas and why?

Hewitt: North Oak Cliff – the hills, trees, and diverse population have always been fun to experience.

CD: What was your best/highest sale?

Hewitt: Somehow pulling off a triple domino in which I was the only Realtor in all three sales. Phew!

CD: Likewise, what was your most challenging sale? What made it memorable?

Hewitt: Ah – personalities… never a dull moment! That one will stay private for now.

CD: How quickly have you ever turned a house?

Hewitt: We listed one last month and it went under contract and closed in 22 days.

CD: How much did you sell last year?

Hewitt: Hewitt & Habgood Realty Group closed over $42 million.

CD: What have you learned about selling that makes you so successful?

Hewitt: Patience, patience, patience. Listen, listen, listen. And count to 10 before responding to an irate person.

CD: If you ever change careers for an encore you’ll…

Hewitt: Something around golf. But I love real estate so much that I don’t see myself slowing down anytime soon.

CD: Do you have a second home?

Hewitt: No – I love my home so much that it feels like a vacation home – but I can also travel anywhere without feeling like I need to use the second home.
