It’s Earth Day, and frankly, it’s also Oglesby Day for us! Little did I know when I selected a Bud Oglesby home for our Monday Morning Millionaire that Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate‘s Kyle Rovinsky would also be listing a Montgomery Farm home designed by Oglesby Greene.

It is also the first LEED gold-certified home built in North Texas. What a way to celebrate Earth Day!

The Origins of Oglesby Greene

The Oglesby Group and Office of Graham Greene merged in 1995 to form Oglesby Greene Architecture. They continue to create striking structures while advocating for good design in the community.

Architecturally, we are ‘classic modernists’ and have made a strategic decision to avoid engaging in recapitulations of traditional architectural forms and technologies. As is demonstrated by the breadth and diversity of our portfolio, we have sought out commissions that are engaging, complex, and constructed in a way that is focused on the buildings’ future performance.

With that philosophy, it’s easy to see why they were chosen to help plan the Montgomery Farm development in Allen and design this TERRACourt Hill Country Modern home there.

Montgomery Farm: Driven by Sustainability

Montgomery Farm is one of the most exciting planned developments in North Texas. It began as a 500-acre horse farm owned by Frances and Philip O’Bryan Montgomery. It is also home to the Connemara Conservancy, 72 acres of one of the most beautiful areas in Texas. Located between Plano and Allen, it’s a community driven by sustainability.

Nothing is to be planned or constructed which depends on the destructive consumption of precious natural resources. The spirit of living a life in balance is represented in both the form and details of the architecture and its natural setting.

The TERRACourt House was built by Les Hall’s Sustainable Structures of Texas. It scored a 49 HERS rating, placing it in the top 1 percent of energy-efficient homes nationwide. HERS is the Home Energy Rating System, nationally recognized as the standard for calculating a home’s energy performance.

The 5,285-square-foot, five-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bath Hill Country Modern home features a limestone brick exterior, standing-seam metal roof, and wood and metal arbors wrapped in wisteria to echo the organic nature of the setting.

“It is a testament to what can be achieved with the best materials, old-world craftsmanship, and good science,” Hall said.
