Where can you find a modern retreat with privacy, space, and only minutes from downtown Dallas? Our Saturday Seven Hundred at 2100 Lakeland Dr. was designed by Mark Martinek of MOD Construction. Martinek is the go-to designer for anyone wanting an exceedingly cool modern home in east Dallas.
The location can’t be beat. Set on 2.5 acres, it’s a mile from the Dallas Arboretum nestled between the creek and the railroad tracks. It was a campground for the Boy Scouts from the 1950s to the 1970s, and is only a six-minute walk to the pool at The Fraternal Order of Eagles, an iconic summer hangout.

A few years ago, musician Bobby Hoke with The Graceland Ninjaz decided it was the perfect location for a home and music studio.

Hoke went through several architects before finding his fit with MOD. Martinek understood the modern aesthetic and energy efficiency Hoke wanted. He created a 2,091-square-foot home and a 450-square-foot studio clad in oxidized steel. The home features age- and weather-resistant materials, including repurposed brick and a metal roof. The home has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and one powder bath. Clear-sealed concrete floors run throughout — talk about easy maintenance. Just grab your leaf blower, open the sliding glass doors, and clean up in seconds!

“You have wonderful views from every room and then it’s got this kind of rugged terrain,” listing agent Karen Hettrick with Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s said. “If you were a kid, you’d have a heyday here.”

Hettrick has the property listed for $765,000. That’s an amazing price for a one-of-a-kind home on this much acreage.

“I’m going to miss the views, the privacy, the parties, and the music,” Hoke said.  “A lot of great music was played and recorded here. This is the best neighborhood in Dallas for anyone that’s artsy, bohemian, or free spirited!”

That describes basically everyone on the CandysDirt.com staff, so we may be fighting over this one!
