So many people are overwhelmed by the idea of an older home. They imagine tight, drafty spaces, oppressive woodwork, and a limited traditional design scheme. But this home in Munger Place — a beautiful turn-of-the-century neighborhood filled with four-squares and bungalows — is going to change your mind.

Built in 1909, this Greek revival prairie-style home has such presence from the curb. It’s so classic, with architectural elements that make you feel as if you’re strolling the neighborhoods of Boston. But inside you’ll find versatile spaces and updated finishes. It’s truly a wonderful space for a family to thrive.

“I love that our home has more of an open floor plan than many of the Munger Place homes,” says Megan King, the owner who is also marketing 4935 Victor. She’s planning to list it after the holidays, but for now it’s a hip pocket priced at $539,000.

The home, a three-bedroom, three-bath home has two stories as well as two living and dining rooms all in 2,567 square feet. There’s also a full guest suite above the garage that’s not counted in the total square footage of the home.  Plus the master suite as a full living area attached that gets great light!

“The study/playroom attached to the living area (with a door) is really convenient for the kids!” King said.

“Our neighbors are a great variety of young families to people who have lived here 30 years, musicians, local celebrities, professionals, families with teenagers, really everything!” said Megan. “I love all the events, porch parties in the spring and fall, Halloween is crazy and parties for every holiday. A very close-knit neighborhood we are going to miss very much.”

I have to agree with her, as this is one of my former neighborhoods that, tragically, as more people began to fall in love with it, it became less affordable. Still, at $539,000 and within a wonderful, walkable East Dallas neighborhood, you’re seeing a great value.

Megan notes that the upstairs bath has been updated with a basketweave marble floor, but the front porch is something she and her husband, Patrick, agree about.

“I love the French doors from master and guest room to the big porch upstairs,” Megan said.

“I love our front porch — both first and second story,” Patrick added. “It faces the south so it’s always shady and cool. It’s a great way to personally connect with neighbors over an ice cold beer.”

And if you need space for you children (or pets!) to run about, there’s a fantastic backyard, too.
