As if our lives are not already stressful enough, what with the five Dallas police ambushed and shot on July 7 in downtown Dallas, the terrorist (or whatever) attack in Nice, France that friends of mine were 100 yards from, then three police down in Baton Rouge  yesterday… the poor employees at Nationstar Mortgage in Coppell had to clear out this morning because of a bomb threat.

HousingWire.com reports that the corporate headquarters for Nationstar Mortgage, “home to approximately 900 of the company’s employees, sat vacant for several hours Monday morning as a bomb threat forced the company’s employees to evacuate the building.”

Good news: the threat was not made against Nationstar per se, but rather a nearby, unaffiliated building.

“At the police department’s request and in the best interest of our employees’ safety we closed that facility,” Doherty continued. “We received notice from the Dallas Police Department recently that the area was clear and our employees can now return to the Cypress Waters building.”

Nationstar’s corporate headquarters is located in Coppell, Texas, and is located on Cypress Waters Blvd., so the company often refers to it as the Cypress Waters location.

Sources at Nationstar told HousingWire the company’s headquarters was evacuated sometime around 8 a.m. The  “all clear” was given around 10 a.m., so employees were out just for a couple of hours.

Sidenote: where do you hang out when there is a bomb threat at work? Is this new information we are going to have to “arm” ourselves with now?

The diligent reporters at HousingWire got a little run-around, however, when trying to get details from the police:

HW contacted the Dallas Police Department for information on the threat, but was referred to the Coppell Police Department for further details on the investigation.

The Coppell Police Department told HousingWire that it was not involved in the investigation or search of Nationstar and the surrounding buildings and referred HousingWire back to the Dallas Police Department for more information.

Candy, I agree that these are stressful times for all, but you omitted the violence against people of color that sparked the recent police violence. Let’s not forget these people as well, as no one deserves the type of violence we are experiencing these days in America.

I did not intend to omit it. When my son was a teenager I guarded his life and almost held my breath every time he went out — would he drive wildly, would he return home to me alive? I understand black mothers have another layer of worry: will the cops target my child as a bad kid? I so want to get this discussion out in the open and SOLVED! Every mother in America should! While more whites are killed by police, proportionally more blacks actually are. I really don’t know what the answer is, but I would start with our Dallas Police Chief David Brown, who frankly I think is a genius. He should lead a national task force to really put it all on the table and find some solutions. He is the first person who has said that nearly 70% of black youth have no father figures at home. And that we ask way too much of our police, which is probably why we have these issues in the first place. We can also say that homelessness and lack of parenting caused this violence as well as lack of social services… and then why is it that two ex-military men have done the ambushing? Are we using the military as a social service perhaps (because we no longer have mental hospitals)? Lots of questions I couldn’t get into but I so agree with you that NO ONE deserves the type of violence we are experiencing currently. I would like it to stop. Thank you so much for bringing this up, love, peace and safety to you!
