Word comes from The Advocate that the Spanish-style mansion at 1704 W. Colorado Blvd. will be auctioned on the steps of the George Allen Courts building on Commerce St. July 7. The home, which has raised the hackles of neighbors after hosting weddings on the grounds. Still, we are absolutely saddened by the thought of anyone losing their precious home. We attempted to contact the homeowner, but the only phone number listed for the property has been disconnected.

This isn’t any ordinary home, though. Named one of the “Most Beautiful Homes in Dallas” by D Magazine and featured on the Dallas Open Days Garden Conservancy Tour, this Kessler Park home has some stand-out features, including a 4,000-square-foot main home and accompanying structures, expansive gardens, and tremendous views of the nearby Stevens Park Golf Course and Coombs Creek.

Bidding starts at $500,000, according to the Auction.com listing for the property, however, Dallas Central Appraisal District has it on the rolls for $939,880. How much do you think it will sell for?

Stevens ParkStevens Park Village is one of my favorite areas of North Oak Cliff, nestled between Colorado Boulevard and the edge of the cliff. The wide, heavily treed streets are welcoming and the Austin-stone-and-brick-houses that predominate have an intimate, quaint feel. You’ll glimpse killer views of downtown from Stevens Park Village, and neighbors get friendly at two local parks.

The older residences in the neighborhood of 176 houses were built between 1939 and 1941. Fifteen were built by Charles Dilbeck, an architect who had a way of creating imminently livable, friendly spaces.

Today’s Tuesday Two Hundred at 2329 W. Colorado Blvd., although not a Dilbeck, is a perfect example of what Stevens Park Village has to offer. Built in 1941, this three bedroom, two bath stone-and-wood cottage has beautiful hardwood floors, a fireplace, arched doorways, and corner cupboards. It is 1,541 square feet, and newly listed by Nancy Gonzales with David Griffin & Company for $249,900.

Kessler Cottage

North Oak Cliff is one of Dallas’ oldest established neighborhoods and it’s full of community gems, from multiple annual festivals and historic districts to family friendly outdoor areas and a streetcar system newly revived earlier this month.

Its diversity of architecture is one of its most appealing aspects for those who live there—the range of styles and eras makes for distinct, memorable neighborhoods with a range of options for homeowners.

Today’s Tuesday Two Hundred is a West Kessler cottage at at 638 Tenna Loma Ct.—the neighborhood is bounded by Stevens Park Golf Course on the north, Davis Street on the south, Hampton Road on the west, and the Twelve Hills Nature Center to the east.

West Kessler is one of North Oak Cliff’s marvelous neighborhoods, home to about 150 households. You’ll find lots of late-1930s Tudor cottages, as well as newer Austin stone-and-brick houses in traditional and ranch styles.

This 1941 Tenna Loma cottage has 1,381 square feet with two bedrooms and one bathroom. It harmoniously marries vintage charm, like original light fixtures and stained glass insets, with modern updates, like stainless steel appliances and granite counters in the kitchen.

It is listed by Ged Dipprey at Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate and recently reduced $6,000 to $279,000.

Bison Trail Front

Backyards are great and all, but sometimes you just don’t have the wherewithal to mow the lawn every Saturday, or deal with the hassle of a pool. That doesn’t mean you have to give up having a backyard, per se. If you want lovely, relaxing views without all that hassle, then you should consider this gem at 919 Bison Trail in Stevens Wood.

Bison Trail Living

This is a great neighborhood right off of Stevens Park Golf Course, a public course in North Oak Cliff that has been recently restored to epic beauty and playability. This home has two bedrooms, two baths, almost 1,700 square feet, a two-car garage and fantastic golf course views from its elevated deck. Just below the deck is a wonderful stone patio with fire pit — no better place to roast marshmallows during the first cold snap!

Bison Trail Kitchen

Marketed by Phillip Walker of Keller Williams Elite for $399,000, this North Oak Cliff home is recently updated with tons of great features that make it move-in ready. While the listing calls this home a Midcentury Modern, I’d say it fits more in the realm of post-war contemporary. It lacks a lot of features you would usually spot in a mid-mod, including a flat or angled roof, open floor plans, wood grain accents, and atomic-era lighting.

Bison Trail Master bath

Still, this home has a wonderfully bright, warm, contemporary feel with updates in the kitchen and baths that will make any new owner happy. Fresh tile, counters, and a luxury master suite make this home a real catch. Add in the amazing view and it’ll fly off the market!

610 Tenna Loma Front

This house is already so cute. I usually hate it when people say this, but it really does have great bones.

Marketed by Mike Bates, 610 Tenna Loma Court in West Kessler Heights has been expertly maintained and is ready for some color. There are three bedrooms, two baths, and just over 1,800 square feet in this home. You’re within a hop, skip, and jump from Stevens Park Golf Course, and the Bishop Arts District is just a short bike ride away. It’s on the market for a recently reduced $237,500.

610 Tenna Loma Living

When I first saw the interiors of this house, I loved how the living and dining areas had been opened up. It is so refreshing to see so much open space in a home built in 1940. The fireplace is gorgeous, and there are tons of great built-ins. Truly, this home is perfect for the book collector.

610 Tenna Loma Dining

I love the French doors that separate the living and dining areas. It’s perfect to create some intimacy in a space. While the floors, which were recently refinished, sparkle like new, there are tons of great period features such as arched doorways.

610 Tenna Loma Kitchen

Now, I’ve seen lots of kitchens like this one in North Oak Cliff. A new granite countertop has been added, but you’ve still got the same awkward layout that would only make sense if you had a gigantic, antiquated gas range and an actual ice box. This kitchen would definitely benefit from a full-on gutting, and you’ll have put your mark on it to boot!

610 Tenna Loma Sunroom

There’s a great sunroom attached to the kitchen, with plenty of light. Of course, you can deal with the linoleum floors later, probably after you redo the kitchen, right?

The best part about this house isn’t in the photos or the listing information, though. It’s the neighborhood. This area has banded together in recent years to improve quality of life. That’s thanks in large part to great leadership and fantastic residents.
