Seventies contemporary

The 1970s were more than just swinging, they were also a decade of action, invention, and creativity. It’s the decade that brought us Microsoft, Apple, the first jumbo jet, video game, cell phone, and some decidedly non-cookie-cutter homes. Our Saturday Seven Hundred at 10801 Branch Oaks Circle is a 1970s contemporary that is an excellent example of how architectural boundaries were being broken in 1976 — and by a female builder.

French EclecticOur Monday Morning Millionaire is a beautiful French eclectic home at 4301 Edmondson Ave. only a block from Highland Park Village. This is an architectural style that has never gone out of style largely due to the fact it combines influences that strike a familiar chord, such as symmetry, while still allowing the freedom to experiment a bit, hence the eclectic aspect. Some contemporary house designs can seem a little untouchable — sleek and chic, but looking more like they should function as a museum instead of as a home for actual humans.

Our Monday Morning Millionaire is a Bluffview Austin stone contemporary that shows off exquisite design and practical function to work for real people.

Karen Eubank staged the house at 4421 Bluffview Blvd. so it would be seen as a comfortable place to live, in addition to showing off its gorgeous architecture, compliments of Phillip Jennings Custom Homes.

“When I was staging, a mom came by for a sneak peek with her little boy of about eight,” Eubank said. “When he threw himself on the large sectional and said, ‘All my brothers and sisters could fit here, this would be great!,’ I thought that was the best stamp of approval because that’s exactly what is going to happen — a family is going to gather here and watch TV, enjoy the fire, and hang out.”

There’s plenty of space for a family to stretch their legs with five bedrooms, five full bathrooms, one half bath, two living areas, three dining areas, two offices, and 6,011 square feet on two stories, built in 2014 and sitting on 0.42 acres. The floor plan also lends itself to entertaining and we can imagine some killer parties for human big and little.

Mockingbird Park

Our Inwood National Bank Home of the Week is a surprising find on many levels. This Mockingbird Park Ranch at 3915 Fairley Lane looks like a charming little cottage. It’s so much more. It’s certainly not little. It’s also not a cookie-cutter house. This ranch is full of character, light, and sits on one of the largest, unique lots in the neighborhood on a dedicated block. That’s right; there is only one house on Fairley Lane.

Lake Highlands North Home for Sale | Dallas Homes for Sale | CandsDirt.com

We look at a lot of houses here at CandysDirt.com. The ones that stand out are almost always staged in a way that showcases amenities, function, and flow. Buyers can better imagine themselves in a home with furniture and accessories, and a tastefully furnished home — with no clutter or weirdness — will sell a home a lot faster than an empty place.

Our Thursday Three Hundred at 10323 Vistadale Dr. in Lake Highlands North stands as a beautiful example of staging done right. They show off the recently completed renovations that check off lots of buyer “wants.” Think Carrera Marble, wood-burning fireplace, gorgeous hardwood floors, and manicured landscaping.

“This property has great character and personality, not to mention being in an established, popular area like Lake Highlands,” said listing agent Patty Herbert with Coldwell Banker Apex Realtors. “The renovation has made this home more contemporary, yet kept many of the original, unique features.”

This home has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, two living rooms, and 1,900 square feet, built in 1962. Come, take a tour with us.

It’s no secret that North Texas is home to some seriously talented home construction and design pros. So when Houzz announced their 2016 award winners, it was no surprise to see Dallas-Fort Worth professionals making a huge splash.

The awards are based on an annual survey and analysis of more than 35 million monthly Houzz users, and are awarded in three categories: design, customer service, and photography. Design winners can boast photos of their work were among the most popular on the site.

Customer service honors are based on several factors, including the number and quality of client reviews received in 2015, as well as a firm’s interaction with the public on the site.  Both awards have stiff competition, with about 35 million active homebuilding, remodeling, and design professionals on the site.

We’ve rounded up ten 2016 Houzz winners for your viewing pleasure. Take some time to let your eyes delight in their work!
