Horse Farm with A Heart: Equest’s Wylie Campus is For Sale
Share News:
Last week we posted on the Tolkien-inspired home and garden tour event in Preston Hollow April 6 to 8 you can attend to benefit Equest.
More details on the whimsical property: the main house is 9,000 square feet and, along with an Old World forest garden, there’s an underground hobbit-friendly guest house with a secret passage, indoor slide, and child-sized furniture, all of which will transport you to the enchanting Middle Earth realm of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings series. The event is this upcoming weekend, so RSVP pronto if you haven’t done so!
And, here’s more news: Equest has put its 42-plus acre prime horse facility on Lake Ray Hubbard up for sale. They are consolidating operations at the Texas Horse Park in South Dallas in order to make the best use of resources to serve the 1,200 clients each year who benefit from the organization’s equine therapy programs. Purchasing the Wylie land is another way you can assist this wonderful organization to bring comfort, joy, and healing to children and adults through therapeutic horse-related activities.
The rolling acreage set on the waterfront of Lake Ray Hubbard is improved with a single family home, a large-scale horse barn, open air and covered riding arenas, and feel good karma that will make your heart sing. Oh, and though it currently has an agricultural exemption and could continue with that use, the land also has notable potential for residential development.
Equest followed an initial site in Wylie with a second location in the Texas Horse Park — a city-owned 304-acre site in the Great Trinity River Forest in South Dallas — in 2015 to expand its services. Now in place are stalls for 38 horses, a covered arena, and 6,000 square feet of administration and therapy space. With the help of a donation from Al Hill Jr., Equest’s South Dallas venue will include a state-of-the-art, energy-efficient, steel-covered second arena with industrial fans, high-tech audio, and a platform for announcers and judges. The improved facility, expected to be completed in early fall 2017, will enable the nonprofit to serve more clients and expand outreach programming with the Dallas Independent School District, and other organizations.

Here’s a resident. Who can so “no’ to this face?
Waiting to be groomed. The sheer act of brushing and petting a docile animal of this size can be incredibly sensory and comforting. No doubt he’s brought much joy to Equest clients.

The Wylie property is listed for $2.5 million. Andy Steingasser, broker with Dave Perry-Miller in Town, is managing the sale and donating 100 percent of his commission to Equest. For more information about the waterfront Wylie property, call (214) 693-2639.
