When it comes to creating compelling architecture, environmental elements are critical. In movements like Midcentury Modern, Japanese, and Scandinavian, calming organic design is everything. It speaks to us on a human level, evoking peace, harmony, and belonging. When executed with intention and taste, this design philosophy not only inspires us creatively but also connects us to the spaces. If you’re wondering what this looks like in the real world, read on.

For this week’s Inwood Home of the Week sponsored by Inwood National Bank, we’re excited to show off an exquisite design by Lardner Group Development and architect FAR + DANG. For this one, they took an all-new approach in innovating an aesthetic they call calm, textured modern.

This 4,700-square-foot, four-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bathroom home uses layout, materials, and design to blur the lines between indoor luxury and outdoor living.

Set on an oversized, tree-filled lot in Midway Hollow, the home is framed by mature oak trees and modern landscaping, setting a private and inviting scene. From the curb, this home showcases custom millwork, 10′ massive windows, and a standing seam metal roof. You can almost see straight through this home from the street as if its presence is a literal part of the environment it exists in.

Then, the interior steals the show with classic modern functionalism and an elegant contemporary feel. Upon arrival, you’re enveloped by nature. Walls of windows pull in panoramas from all directions. Then, white oak flooring, more custom millwork, and a striking stone fireplace reinforce the elemental ethos.

Laid out in an open floor plan, this home invites effortless entertaining and eliminates stress almost instantly.

The gourmet kitchen is a timeless standout. Integrated just over the main living area, this seamless chef’s paradise features plenty of counterspace, sleek cabinetry, and an eat-in island.

Then, the primary suite is defined by incredible outdoor views. Here, floor-to-ceiling windows and a private entrance to the backyard allow natural light to fill the space and promote relaxation.

Of course, the ensuite bathroom provides a serene spa retreat, which connects you to the natural world. The millwork motif carries seamlessly into this space. Then, an onyx soaking tub and step-in shower with multiple stations elevate every experience.

Designed for flexibility, the home includes multiple living areas, a workout room, a game room, a mudroom, and two laundry rooms. This home also offers a striking office space with views across the curated courtyard.

The backyard is where this home blends outdoor living with inviting appeal. Separated by a wall of glass, this exterior space offers a manicured environment that feels like an extension of the home itself. With a full outdoor kitchen, firepit, and stone patio, it’s a perfect place to unwind. Additionally, two second-floor balconies enhance the palatial feel and provide additional entertaining options.
