Surprising Home Inspection Finds You Did Not See Coming
Share News:
Any experienced home inspector will tell you that just when you think you’ve seen it all, something crazy will leap out of the crawl space and surprise you. But sometimes even a healthy sense of “expecting the unexpected” isn’t enough to prepare you for the surprises in store.
Today, let’s check out some of the more surprising home inspection finds we’ve encountered lately.
Watch That Last Step, It’s a Doozy
Nothing like an unexpected 5-foot drop on the other side of a door to wake you right up. Since this is obviously against building code, a potential buyer might request that the owner complete construction of steps or a porch outside the door here. Or, since it’s something they will be living with, they might request a credit in the contract so they can do the work themselves.
Well, I Wasn’t Expecting That
Inspector Tracy nearly skipped this attic — just like the residents have likely been doing due to the unsafe ladder. Luckily, he didn’t, so he could find the water heater flue tucked way back where you can barely see it, detached and leaking carbon monoxide into the attic.
Wait, What?
So here’s a new one! When Inspector Cody turned the gas on, this happened. Hello! This scary situation is likely due to an improper or damaged pressure regulator in the unit. These potential buyers will want to get this gas range checked out right away.
