Former NFL quarterback Colt McCoy, following his January debut in the booming Fort Worth commercial real estate market, has named longtime local broker Matt Montague as Executive Managing Director of the full-service commercial firm HPI. Meanwhile, the firm’s Dallas-Fort Worth office is seeing traction in office leasing in downtown Dallas.

Founded in 1992, HPI has grown from four employees to more than 200, now managing nearly 30 million square feet in Austin, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio — and now Fort Worth.

“Matt is first class in every way,” McCoy said in a release. “His leadership, experience, and strong values completely align with what we are building here at HPI. Bringing Matt on board is a crucial piece to our success, and his deep industry knowledge gives us a real edge here in Fort Worth.”

Montague brings 17 years of experience and a track record of more than 500 closed deals totaling over $1.5 billion. His background includes tenant representation, agency leasing, investment sales, and development — making him a natural fit for HPI’s full-service ambitions.

McCoy’s move into commercial real estate comes after a 12-year NFL career and run as a four-year starter for the University of Texas.

With Montague on board, HPI is building out a Fort Worth platform that will offer third-party leasing and management, acquisitions, development, and more.

“Fort Worth is in the top of the first inning relative to its growth and maturation,” Montague said. “With the HPI platform behind us, we’re well-positioned to make an impact.”

HPI’s Dallas-Fort Worth office, which we imagine might just adopt a single city moniker, has found wins in the Dallas office leasing market lately. HPI Real Estate Services & Investments finalized a $155 million loan extension for Ross Tower, its 1.1 million square-foot Class A office building in downtown Dallas at 500 N. Akard Street. It was once known as Lincoln Tower when it was the headquarters for Halliburton.

Since acquiring Ross Tower, its owners, which include HPI, Bandera Ventures, and Second City Real Estate, have invested nearly $20 million upgrading the building’s amenity package, including tripling the size of Starbucks, creating a casual Wi-Fi lounge, a tenant living room, and executive board room for companies. HPI reps say the building upgrades have driven tenant interest and new leasing success totaling over 415,000 rentable square feet and have successfully negotiated several major renewals including the building’s largest tenant, Munsch Hardt, at 77,000 rentable square feet.

Transportation infrastructure giant HNTB announced last month it would relocate its Dallas office to Ross Tower in downtown Dallas as well. Spanning 26,175 square feet on the entire 38th floor, the new office will boast dynamic workspaces designed to spark creativity and collaborative common spaces, reps for HNTB said.

HPI’s Dallas properties also include Spectrum Center at 5080 Spectrum Dr. in Addison, and the headquarters for two Dallas-based real estate brokerages — Douglas Center at 8333 Douglas at Preston Center, where the Ebby Halliday Realtors Preston Center office expanded its footprint in 2014, and Knox Village at 3001 Knox St., where Rogers Healy and Associates Real Estate is headquartered.

The Preston Center office Ebby Halliday Realtors is located at 8333 Douglas.
