Cake, Cookies, And Sweetness Abounds In This Indiana Kitchen

Many, many, years ago I made my husband, Gus, an ice cream cake for his birthday. He had broken his knee cap and was feeling down. So I decided that an ice cream cake would do wonders for his spirits.

That is a fair representation of the Gusmeister, his love of cake and his love of ice cream. Unfortunately, my story does not have a happy ending because I did not know what in the hell I was doing. I did not make a cake to lift his spirits.

Long story short, when I sliced the cake in half it broke apart. The ice cream I put in the middle was not smooth so the cake was not level and the cracks were even more accentuated. I ended up using the ice cream like spackle and did my best to patch the cracks. My daughter, who said she would help, walked away knowing there was nothing she could do.

This too is an accurate representation of the Gusman when he saw what we dubbed
“Frankencake.” It’s been more than 10 years since that baking disaster and we still talk about it every birthday.

You are probably wondering why I am telling you about this frankencake. Well it has to do with the house featured in this week’s column.

This kitchen, which no doubt belongs to a master confectioner, is located within this home at 418 Saint John Court North, Beech Grove, Indiana. The home has five bedrooms, one bathroom, and smells absolutely delightful. The house is a little more than 1,600 square feet and the owners are asking $245,000.

Two things of note: There is little doubt I would make the owner of this kitchen my very best friend. Does anyone doubt that from this kitchen only the very best cakes, cookies, and treats are produced?

Secondly, those aqua colored appliances are Dash products and they are wonderful. I own some and they produce the best desserts and meals you could ever want. Mmmm. I digress.

Okay, I will be the first to say it, my teeth are starting to hurt. Not even the set of Nailed It has this level of dedication to sweetness.

At this point you are probably a little nervous that this theme continues throughout the house because it would be a little hard to take. To that, I say, have no fear.

Here is your Goth-esque room complete with a leopard print rug.

But if this is not your jam, then there is option C.

Here is the auto parts store wing of the house right down to the beige metal desk. Dollars to donuts all the books in that room are all Chiltons Auto Repair manuals. Just sayin’.

Frankencake aside, I think I will stick with the gooey-sweet kitchen.
