Plenty of Space to Stretch Out in This Plano Splurge Vs Steal

Share News:

This week’s Splurge versus Steal takes us to Plano where you’ll two lovely homes that are similar in price but worlds apart in square footage. Here in Plano, you’ll typically find homes built in the eighties or nineties, depending on how far north you are. Hit SH 121 and you’ll be in the aughts — for both homes built and the glory days of those homeowners. But I’m getting off topic. Today we’re comparing an eighties and a nineties home as this week’s Splurge or Steal. So which do you prefer — the nineties two-story with updates or the eighties two-story with plenty of room to spare.

The Splurge

Address: 5109 Teddington Park Drive

Located in the Emerald Lane neighborhood near Spring Creek and Coit, this well-maintained four-bedroom, three-bath home has 2,796 square feet and plenty of updates.

This two-story home has all the grand great rooms we’ve come to expect. Updates include a recently replaced roof and fence, plus an updated kitchen. Also, freshly painted interior, new carpet, and luxury vinyl plank flooring in the main living areas.

Speaking of living areas, the two-story living room has a cozy wood burning fireplace and high ceilings that are wired for sound. Columns and arches are all familiar architecture and they’re highlighted in the mantle. Symmetry, it’s great.

An updated modern kitchen features granite countertops, an island with breakfast bar and stainless steel appliances including the refrigerator and new cooktop.

A spacious downstairs primary bedroom with ensuite bath has dual sinks, a jetted garden tub, and walk-in shower. It’s located toward the back of the house for privacy and looks out onto the sparkling pool. Consider it an entertainer’s backyard with a patio and large pool that is perfect for cooling off. And I don’t know what it is – probably the healthy banana tree and bright white brick, but it feels positively refreshing and Floridian on the patio.

Steve Metarelis of Offerpad Brokerage has listed 5109 Teddington Park Drive for $679,900.

The Steal

Address: 3629 Seltzer Drive

Located in the nearby Whiffletree neighborhood, you’ll find this beauty from a decade earlier. The two-story has four bedrooms, four baths, and a whopping 3,480 square feet. There’s more: a three-car garage, diving pool, and a bonus room that could be a second primary bedroom.

A spacious living area features brick fireplace with herringbone pattern and flanking inset bookshelves. The gorgeous plantation shutters and parquet floors show this was truly built as a custom home in 1980. The work that goes into making those herringbone patterns is impressive.

The light and bright kitchen features raised breakfast bar with updated granite countertops, tile backsplash, and butlers pantry. It’s got stainless steel appliances and a mini beverage fridge.

An apartment-sized media room upstairs with a full bath could be used as a game room, kids play room, home office, or extra bedroom. A second primary would make a perfect mother-in -law suite or vice versa.

A painted board on board fence and wood deck overlooks the pool making for the perfect backyard oasis, fantastic for relaxing and hosting. The slide just makes it complete. A perfect backyard pool for Sunday afternoon fun.

Raegan Hailey of North Texas Top Team, Realtors has listed 3629 Seltzer Drive for $665,000.
