This Colonial Revival Mansion in Preston Hollow is Fit For Film

Have I got a hot property for you today! This classic Colonial Revival mansion in Preston Hollow looks like it belongs in a movie.

Combine the best parts of the Father of the Bride house and the one from Home Alone, and voila! It’s the mixture that makes the magic.

Colonial Revival homes are lovely because they represent architectural liberty, which is pretty poetic when you think about it. 

Preservationist Virginia McAlester gives the low down on Colonial Revival homes in her excellent reference book “A Field Guide to American Houses.”

The term “Colonial Revival,” as used here, refers to the entire rebirth of interest in the early English and Dutch houses of the Atlantic seaboard. The Georgian and Federal styles form the backbone of the Revival, with secondary influences from Postmedieval English and Dutch Colonial prototypes. Details from two or more of these precedents are freely combined in many examples so that pure copies of colonial houses are far less common than are eclectic mixtures.”

This Colonial Revival mansion was built in 1984, but the architect clearly followed the historical path of eclectic mixture. In fact, one has to applaud this build as so many ghastly styles were popping up all over Dallas in the 1980s.

I’m hoping someone will let me know who built this stately Colonial Revival mansion. The Dallas Central Appraisal District online records only go back to 1999 and show Roy W. Bailey lived here from at least then until 2014. It’s certainly a home befitting of a mover and shaker, and from what I can find, Mr. Bailey was the former finance chairman of the Republican Party. Wouldn’t you have liked to be privy to the conversations in his home? I bet there was never a dull moment!

And how could there be in a house like this? With that dramatic entry, It’s perfect for entertaining political donors, throwing debutante soirees, and, of course, hosting corporate cocktail parties and family barbecues around the magnificent pool.

It’s also an excellent family home with 12,999 square feet, five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and a powder bath.

And it’s a home with all the necessities for what will probably become another summer staycation. There’s a gym, a sauna, a massage room, a cabana, and that fabulous diving pool. There’s even a turf tennis court.
