Every American looks forward to two things at Thanksgiving: Pie, and that awesome nap after pie.

And when it comes to pie, Realtor Ryan Shea has been giving them away for the past four years to his clients through his annual appreciation party. Shea, who usually gives away as many as 75 of your favorite pies — pumpkin, pecan, and apple — during his pie party, and will be doing it again on Nov. 22.

This time, though, he’s hosting his party at the home of designer Charlotte Comer, whose eponymous interior design firm has turned heads throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth region. And to add a charitable spin, all extra pies will be donated for the Thanksgiving meal at the Dallas 24-Hour Club, a nonprofit that provides transitional housing to men and women starting their lives over free from alcohol and drugs.

“It has been a lot of fun to provide this party for my clients, to get together with them and do something fun,” Shea said. “For whatever reason, we always end up with extra pies, so I thought it would be a good idea to pass them on to the people at the Dallas 24-Hour Club.”

It’s definitely a sweet gesture for both Shea’s clients and the brave men and women facing an uphill battle against substance abuse and homelessess.

Shea’s still taking orders for pies up until tomorrow, Nov. 17. You can order pecan, apple, or pumpkin — Shea says that apple is the perennial favorite — and pick it up between 3:30 and 7 p.m. at 5609 Vickery Blvd. on Nov. 22. Stay and have a beverage, see Charlotte Comer’s beautiful taste in person, and kick off the season of Thanksgiving. Email Ryan Shea at [email protected] or call him at 214-552-9304.

Meaders for Power of Pie

For those who want a different kind of pie, Visiting Nurse Association is hawking hot deep-dish pastries for $25 a pop made by top Dallas pastry chefs. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the Power of Pie fundraiser goes directly to Meals on Wheels. Today’s the last day to order, though, so log on to PowerofPie.org to choose which local chef will have a creation on your dessert table come Thanksgiving. Orders are available for pick up on Nov. 22 and 23.

If you won’t be in town for turkey day, the “Zero Calorie Pie” option gives donors an opportunity to support Meals on Wheels and the VNA without receiving an actual pie. The campaign raised more than $50,000 last year with its mouth-watering, crusty-crusted circles of deliciousness, and they hope to break that record.

Participating chefs include Jill Bates of Fearing’s, Gianni Santin of Haute Sweets, Maggie Huff of FT33, Chad Houser at Cafe Momentum, Danyele McPherson at Remedy and HG Supply, Nicolas Blouin at the Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek, John Tesar of Knife, Anastacia Quiñones of Oddfellows, as well as well known Dallas pie institutions, such as Norma’s.

Power of Pie was conceptualized by Meaders Ozarow, owner of Empire Baking Company, and she continues to head the campaign each year on behalf of VNA.
